| Newbie Regular Member Gender: Female Orientation: Straight Posts: 2 Join Date: Jun 2011 |  Does Facebook help users come out? Hi everyone, My name is Esther and I'm a student. I'm currently researching whether Facebook can help GLBT users with issues such as coming out and how it can improve the process. I'm hoping that the results will help us understand how social networks can increase the self-esteem and acceptance of members of the GLBT community, and also to understand any negatives that may be associated with being out in an online world. Hopefully we'll be able to tell people how to use social networks for their advantage. I will be sharing any findings here for anyone who is interested! I can't change the survey until I finish this round (I would have to cancel all the results I have thusfar and start again) but as soon as I open the next round I will put Trans and "Do not identify as either male or female" under gender. For now, you can put under the last question (Is there anything else you would like to add?) your gender and orientation as you see fit, and I will count that, not what is written in the first questions. Please keep posting any feedback and criticisms!!!! I want the results of this study to show us how to maximize the positive benefits of using Facebook, so I want the survey to be as accurate as it can be. Thanks so much for your time everyone! |
