    Hi everyone,

My name is Esther and I'm a student. I'm currently researching whether Facebook can help GLBT users with issues such as coming out and how it can improve the process.
I'm hoping that the results will help us understand how social networks can increase the self-esteem and acceptance of members of the GLBT community, and also to understand any negatives that may be associated with being out in an online world. Hopefully we'll be able to tell people how to use social networks for their advantage.
I will be sharing any findings here for anyone who is interested!

If you could help me by filling out my survey I would be really grateful! It takes less than 5 minutes.

The survey has my email address if you have any questions!!

Aw, I was all prepared to proudly march in and tick the 'Does not use Facebook' box, but there wasn't one :frowning2:.

Plus, though this isn't an issue for me, there are people who don't feel comfortable with identifying as male or female.

This was my reaction exactly. I did the survey, but grrr. And to expand on 'trans isn't an orientation', you frequently get gay transpeople, and its a gender identity, not a sexual orientation.

Thanks for the feedback!! I can't change the survey until I finish this round (I would have to cancel all the results I have thusfar and start again) but as soon as I open the next round I will put Trans and "Do not identify as either male or female" under gender.
For now, you can put under the last question (Is there anything else you would like to add?) your gender and orientation as you see fit, and I will count that, not what is written in the first questions.
Please keep posting any feedback and criticisms!!!! I want the results of this study to show us how to maximize the positive benefits of using Facebook, so I want the survey to be as accurate as it can be.
Thanks so much for your time everyone!
