Well, it all started with a single cell organism which mutated and became a mutli-celled organism. Then it developed into a fish-like creature; it crawled out of the sea, grew wings became one of those flying dinosaurs then slowly over millions of years it evolved into a chicken and then that chicken laid an egg. Well, that's my theory anyway. |

Quite simple actually. A protein found only in a chicken's ovaries is necessary for the formation of the egg. The egg can therefore only exist if it has been created inside a chicken. The protein speeds up the development of the hard shell, which is essential in protecting the delicate yolk and fluids while the chick grows inside the egg. There you go.
