We don't believe in Hallmark holidays so today is like any other day.

But I avoid him as much as possible anyway. I'm curt but short when I have to talk to him.
He wasn't very nice to me, so even if I did believe in this holiday he wouldn't get a thing from me. That goes for hugs or "I love you"...blah.

    This holiday can screw itself.

I don't need to avoid my father because he decided several years ago he didn't want to talk to me anymore....

But I've had a GREAT Father's Day. Last night my wife gave me a facial and a peel and generally spoiled me with a bunch of other girly stuff. Then, this morning, my son brought me breakfast IN BED (he also gave me Sponegebob Squarepants Father's Day card, which declares me the "spongiest" father in the world, so I've got that going for me....). And then my wife took me out shopping and I got some yoga pants and some jeans which fit perfectly....

In short, I'd have to say this is the best Father's Day I've ever had.

I am avoiding my dad and was trying whole family but hooray when family gets together and traps me in social occasions when I have suicidal depression ...

I'm having to take care of my dad. He had a stroke not too long ago. As much as I'd like some time to myself, I'm definitely not wanting to avoid him. I'm just thankful that he's alive.

I'm mildly annoyed at the injustice of the world in which some people ignore their dads for father's day, while I went to the cemetary to put flowers on my dad's grave. Then to go to my grandparents to give them a father's day present in my dad's absence, which is always bittersweet at best.

I'd spare no sacrifice if it could bring him back for just a week... :confuzzled:

(the above, by the way, is not aimed in any way at the other posters. I do fully appreciate that there's no shortage of horrible dads out there, and avoiding them is probably best in some cases. But this seems as good a place to vent as any...)

The injustice is that some dads have to be a$$holes. And most of the time, the only thing you can do about it is try to be a better one yourself.

I decided to take the light rail train down to have brunch with my family for Father's Day. The train struck a homeless guy on a bike, and he collapsed right outside my window. I called 911, and they came to give him emergency CPR and whisk him away. Just read on the news website that he died. I was stuck on the train for the last hour while the police investigated. That's just as well - I wasn't really hungry anymore.

I did call him after it was all over. Not surprisingly, it was tough to make small talk.

I agree. Although I can't put flowers on my dad's grave because he was cremated.... and my family refuses to give me the charm they made from his ashes I guess I'll just stick to... praying....?

Anyway, my condolences goes out to anyone who lost their fathers.
    & HAPPY FATHERS DAY to the dad's </3 (!)

Well, I called my dad (who lives in Eastern Canada) and we had a nice phone conversation for over an hour.

I've not commemorated the event at all (like last year and the year before) not because I don't believe in the spirit of the holliday, but because my dad hasn't really been much of a 'father'. As far as avoiding him goes, I did about as much of that as usual.
