There's a girl in my philosophy class who is a very devout christian. I was talking to her today about our Extended Projects, which are basically a long essay we've been researching and writing all year which results in an additional a-level. I didn't know what she was writing about until I asked; turns out her topic is 'Does the media discriminate against the LGBT community?' I asked her why she chose it and she said; 'Because I never saw any reason to dislike gay people, and I was gonna base my project around racism or prejudice about a religion but then I realized how many people were doing that and I just thought 'the modern version of this nobody talks about is Gay People'. You wouldn't be talking shit about black people, you don't get people on the news saying I shouldn't be able to get married or have kids or anything like that so why is okay for people to do it about gay people? I really wouldn't want to be gay... obviously there's nothing wrong with it but I can't imagine having like 90% of the world hate me...' Moment like this just make me smile, I wanted to share it. On the other side of the coin, one of the people we were talking with reacted to the 'It Gets Better Project' in the following way; Him ;OMG, they're advertising now? What that all about anyway? 'Be gay, it gets better with age', lol. Her; It's saying when you get outta school dickheads (glaring at him with this word) stop bullying you for who you are.' I nearly came out to her, but it would have probably been quite awkward, we don't really know each other, I only ever talk to her in that lesson...
