So I want to know your political views.

Personally, I think both sides of the spectrum are incredibly flawed.

    (In my opinion)
    Conservatives are stuck up jerks

    Liberals are narrow-minded

Yeah, this is why I go with Libertarian =D

BUUT ANYWAYS tell me what you think about politics.

I agree with you. As a whole, both parties are hypocritical panderers. The Dems like to act like they're some bastion of enlightenment, and the Repubs like to act like they're preserving tradition. They're both just serving their own means of course. The Libertarians have some weird fetish with privatization and seem more concerned with defending people's right to discriminate than actually standing up for the rights of the discriminated.

I'm going with independent. There are some good candidates here and there, regardless of political affiliation. I've voted for both Democrats and Republicans before.

Well politics itself tends to be portrayed as being narrow-minded, and those who fiercely defend political positions often act like stuck-up jerks. That's not aimed at any particular politicians or members, because people from all across the spectrum are guilty of it. The biggest issue I have with political ideologies is that they often encourage people to think in a particular way rather than let them decide for themselves. For example, somebody who really doesn't give a flying fuck about gay marriage would be expected to embrace it if they were liberal, or to reject it if conservative. It annoys me that people are expected to think a particular way based on their political label, and it's one of the reasons I refuse to attach a label to myself. The member RedState actually does a pretty good job at remaining indifferent to social issues as I've seen him make no secret that they don't concern him, but it's the conservatives who are against gay marriage simply to remain 'conservative' and appeal to their base that make me lose faith in politics. The same can be said for a 'liberal' who supports abortion (or replace this with any political issue) simply because that's considered the liberal thing to do. I'm all for people having their own beliefs, but I see too many people being influenced by an ideology rather than an ideology being influenced by the people.

Although to answer your question, I'd be independent. I like to consider myself a centrist as I support a range of liberal and conservative positions.

i'm also kinda tipsy, so I might not be making much sense. :astonished:

I myself if I had to pick a political stance would call myself Libertarian. However I am not even fully a fan of all of their stances on things. I tend to lean from Libertarian to Republican on most issues. However there are a few issues I agree with the Dems on. I tend to consider the issue on its own and read as many sides of it as I can then make a judgement based on that.

Most of my political views are liberal, and I'd be lying if I said otherwise, but like Martin, I hate the way political ideologies lump all of these stances into one package and expect you to support the whole thing.

Oooh, goody. A political thread. ^_^

I'm a moderate Democrat. Social Liberal, Fiscal Conservative; but really, it depends on the issue.

    Well put.

So my mother is a democrat, and to be fare she has the most influence over me. My father is a republican. growing up, they've had all sort of arguments over politics. I don't really label myself as far as politics go. I think that politicians, for the most part, all have motives that don't always agree with their election slogan if you know what I mean.

It's best not to use "liberal" when talking to an international audience. It means leftist in the US, but elsewhere it means libertarian. But by US terms, I'm a liberal. One of the ones who thinks Obama is too right-wing. Way too right-wing.

I selected Independent. I'm kind of liberal in the sense that I try to use politically correct speech, but that's about it. I think I'm a bit naive when it comes to politics: when I watch presidential debates, I still expect candidates to answer the questions they're being asked.

I don't really don't fit into any of the political camps.

I know this is going to sound odd, but I tend to vote Libertian and Democrat. Though I do vote Republican for a few of the local offices, as I do like the candidate.

  14. I tend to be pretty liberal, but I'm not just going to be a robot and vote my party for everything every single time. I guess I chose other because I honestly have to consider each candidate and each issue and each bit of everyone's platform to make a good decision otherwise I feel weird about it. I don't want to vote ignorantly or to be completely unaware of what's happening, so I have to stay up on what's going on and that's the only way I'll be able to figure out how I feel about politics and politicians.

Recently, I've found myself moving from Libertarian to Liberal (although I could be misinterpreting the label) because a lot of my Libertarian ideology was supported by interpretation of Christian theology, and now that I'm no longer Christian I've had to re-evaluate my politics. So far, most views are moving towards Liberal so I picked that option. (again, I might be misinterpreting the label *facepalm*)

I'm a liberal in the US. I believe that if it doesn't take away or infringe upon some else's rights, go for it. With exceptions, of course, but I am basically a leftist on most matters. I'd prefer not to tie myself down to a specific party, though.

I am mostly leftist, but I think that most left-wing political/economic theories lack the realism that would make them feasible. In real politics, therefore, I lean more towards the centre.

I'd be rather liberal in the USA, centre-left in the UK, and centre-right in Scandinavia / southern Europe.
