This question came up in another thread, so I thought I'd give it its own thread so a proper discussion could be had, as well as so I could ask a question that I've been curious about for a while.

    1. What types of media, in your view, qualify as porn?

    2. If you use any "supplementary materials" while masturbating, what are the like? What media are they? How explicit are they? How do you use them? (i.e. what mental processes, if any, do you go through while using them?)

I don't think I have to remind you all to keep this all PG-13 and to abide by the Code of Conduct while discussing these topics. Allow me to bring to your attention a few key passages before we begin:

Now, as for my own answers, as I said in the other thread, I consider porn to be any media that you utilize while masturbating that you lose significant interest in once you have orgasmed. I consider anything that interests you for non-erotic reasons but is also pornographic to be erotic artwork.

As for my other question, part of the reason I started this thread was because I realized that the porn I use could be quite different from the porn other people use. I look at amateur pornography exclusively (not out of principle, just because that's the stuff that does it for me best). In the pictures/videos I look at, the guys are by-and-large by themselves, usually shirtless (but not always), and almost always wearing pants (I'm not turned off by nudity, but it doesn't make the picture do anything more for me, because I'm much more fascinated by the upper half of the body than the lower half). As such, the videos I watch are usually the guy standing in front of a camera showing off his upper half, or possibly engaging in a specific kind of fetishistic activity I like. The pictures I look at are sometimes fetishistic, but as of late, I tend to focus on the guy himself in the picture (rather than the activity he is doing) and imagine myself doing things with him (making out, caressing, or going further, whatever the sex part of my brain desires that day).

In order to explain my simple answer I feel the need to explain myself.
The way we find, utilize and experience pornography has changed and will keep changing. Showing your ankles in most countries is considers pornography while being in a g-string bikini in others is just a way to tan. Pornography to me, in part, is defined by where you come from rather than what you look at.

    Hypothetically:
Take two homosexual guys age 21. They have never seen porn (yeah right but lets go with this)

Lets make one of them Amish and the other lives in a nudist colony.

If we started with a series of pictures of male in winter clothing and kept flipping page after page, all the while the man in the photos kept taking one article of clothing off (nonchalantly) one page at a time, we would more than likely start seeing the hear rate of the Amish guy start going off probably even before the man in the photo is nude. All the while the Nudist probably never even flinches even after reaching the end of the book. Big deal a naked man. Now, have them hear the sound of two men having sex. They will most probably both pop a hoody.

I think pornography is much more than an image on a page. I think pornography takes place in our head rather than a picture on the screen. I'm not talking about sexual stimulation. I'm referring to our minds putting meaning into perceived objects than cause that sexual stimulation, if that makes any sense. It would explain weird boners being caused by Disney movies, smells, tastes and the such. Since we all come from different backgrounds we are all turned on by different things. Throw pictures, videos, a touch, the smell and voices in motion of a twink in any combination....sorry, that's not porn. That is some naked guy talking about sex and trying to make sex noises to me while someone else would be bound to disagree. If you get that guy that disagrees with me in a room with me and have us watch straight porn. We would probably both agree on the same things.

Pornography is generalized for the masses.
But my definition/meaning is more of how, as an individual, we individualize and react to those said subjects that society deems pornography and eroticism based on where we come from and what we have already been desensitized to.

lol now to answer those questions :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    1. What types of media, in your view, qualify as porn?
-Any that turn me on. From a sound to a smell.

    2. If you use any "supplementary materials" while masturbating, what are the like? What media are they? How explicit are they? How do you use them? (i.e. what mental processes, if any, do you go through while using them?)
-I don''t know how to answer this, I don't think I've done it.

In response to your first question, I consider porn to be any type of multimedia that was created with the primary purpose of getting other people sexually aroused. So, for my definition, I look at the intent of the person that created the image, story, video or whatever instead of the intent of the person viewing the material. For me, this makes it easy to distinguish from movies or television shows that include sexually explicit material and nudity from porn. Of course, there are always grey areas, but I think there is a difference between the two and these seems like a pretty good way to define porn.

As for you second question, I used to use images, text, and video of all sorts. Now though, as internet speeds have become quicker I pretty much stick with free (I would never pay for porn) videos and video clips along with a few photos. I prefer amateur stuff that people have uploaded of themselves just because it seems more real. Anything from solo stuff to two people doing whatever it is they want to do . It seems much more real and intimate when it is uploaded by someone who did it themselves than watching two actors who are told what to do and then moan and do all kinds of stupid shit that normal people don't really do when they have sex. I'd much rather watch a couple that actually cares somewhat about each other.

Erotic literature is what I prefer, as most porn I've ever seen is absurd, especially how everyone look super athleticly in shape (I mean come on, not everyone looks like that!). However, I will confess to occaisionally enjoying photos from Glamour, Vogue & People magazines of female celebrities and article subjects and I rarely do, but I do watch the occaisionaly gay & lesbian porn films, even tho they are obviously overly produced & the voiceovers are totally out of synch with the film, the inappropriate stereotypes abound as far as the respectful treatment of one's partner & the dialogue is just HORRIBLE...

I take the legal definition of porn i.e. being something that involves someone fully naked and/or two or more persons having sex.

My photographer always says that porn is poorly made art, and I tend to agree. I did what could be called a 'soft-core' porn photo shoot the other day with a girl, but I don't really think of it that way, more like art.

Myself? I like to read sexy things.

An Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue counts as a material, i guess.

    For me:

    1. What types of media, in your view, qualify as porn?
-Anything as long as it's sexually stimulating but I do prefer visual and auditory ones.

    2. If you use any "supplementary materials" while masturbating, what are they like? What media are they? How explicit are they? How do you use them? (i.e. what mental processes, if any, do you go through while using them?)

-Basically, imagination is just enough for me. There are infinite possibilities of anything that my mind could brew for just about anything, even this.

My mind. I literally have never experienced porn in any of its media forms and I like to use my imagination instead.
