The Diocese of San Joaquin in Fresno Calif.has voted to cut ties with the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church is the American arm of the Anglican Communion. This started when the Anglican Communion ordained V.Gene Robinson,a gay man in a long-term relationship,as Bishop of New Hampshire in 2003. "The church will inevitably leave the Bible behind at point after point, but since on this view the Bible is the word of fallible men rather than the infallible God,leaving it behind is no great loss."said Bishop John Schofield of San Joaquin diocese. Huge court cases will follow as the two sides fight over church property. nytimes.com
I'm with you Kovax, the Episcopal Church rocks! Our associate head rector is African American, gay, partnered, and female. And she's one of the wisest and holiest people I know. I think it's idiotic and a bit sad that a church or diocese would choose to separate itself from its greater community on a basis of un-Christian discrimination. But I suppose the best thing that we as the Episcopal Church can do is love them and pray for them, and in doing so show them that God loves us for who he created us to be.
I'm so thankful that churches don't control the government and military anymore, because we would be totally fucked if that were the case.
You're right, after all, one deals in beleifs and the other deals on the *ahem* welfare of the country, or they should be at least. But it's a shame that the church feels a need to divide itself. Can't we all just play nicely?
Gene Robinson was at the National PFLAG Conference. I got such nice warm vibes from him. I believe those that love and accept gay people for who they are mimic the true message of Jesus and that is we should just all love eachother.
