I'm sure many of you have seen this circulating around Facebook pages, and I really think this is something everyone needs to sign. The fact is, if it passes, Facebook, Reddit, Google +, Youtube, could all be blocked and not even from US users, from ALL users because it's American companies. Right now in Congress, 21 are for passing it, only 16 against and 1 neutral. So sign it, from US, not from US, do it. I can't guarantee it'll change anything but we can at least try.

Already signed. Pretty serious consequences if it gets passed...

Hopefully the government isn't stupid enough to let this be an official law.

Blocked? Surely if its all users then the sites will simply be taken down, as I doubt congress can block outside of their own country. I can easily circumvent blocks. Even US congress blocks.

But seriously? they don't have the m***erF**king right to censor the internet. Its called freedom of speech, something which they clearly have not heard of, and don't respect.

If they block it then people learn to hack or get around leading to more ability to get into the systems .... imagine the hacker's abilities when everyone can do the basics. Credit cards, personal info, and identify theft think about how the world will progress if everyone is able to do things that are difficult criminal activities.

"Stop Online Piracy Act", just written in a manner that bans *anything* copyright.
So no disney icons, no youtube of anything other than original content (which means no music!), no live-streaming anything.

It lets the government pick and choose what sites ISPs can give.

    ....like in China.....
Like in mother fucking North Korea.

If it was just for shit like BitTorrent sites, I'd be peeved but wouldn't have any public protest, but come the fuck on guys.

Dont just sign and internet petition. Write your congressmen or women. Both Senator and Representative. Get your friends and family to do the same. Its only public pressure that keep these tards in line. Make sure they know you WILL vote them out and make their stance public record if they vote yes.

I think people blow stuff like this out of proportion. The bill says absolutely nothing about blocking Facebook. While I'm not for the bill because of some parts of it, I think if it passes life will go on and nothing that overly major will honestly change. It's like when people raved about the healthcare bill requiring us to euthanize our old. "It may not say that exactly, but the government could get there is this bill passes" <--- this is the worst argument ever, because you can pretty much get anywhere from most bills if you are clever enough. People need to stop causing hysteria by making people believe the absolute worst-case scenario is the reality, which is most definitely isnt.

Just my opinion I suppose, but I tend to think it is better not to freak out about every little thing.

well its gotta be something big if most of my online gaming sites and programs are begging the users to sign online petitions and send letters to the congress etc, and im not even in america, you have to look at the bigger picture here to actually realise what the hell is going on.

i like how the other poster said something about china, sort of brings up another hidden agenda if there is one.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic or naive, but I keep thinking that it won't pass. Typically I am on the same, "Oh please, just calm down," bandwagon, but the reaction this is getting from google, reddit, and other major online entities, (even the icanhascheezeburger networks) has me worried. To get the attention and cause reactions from so many websites, it makes me think this could be something big. It will be interesting to see so many sites blacked out. I hope more sites participate, and they get their statement made.
