Is this a thing ? And if so why, and where did it come from? I first saw this on ugly Betty where there are characters Marc St James and cliff St Paul. Then I read about a real person called James St James
LMAO What a topic LOL! Yes, this is real. However, I’ve never heard of gay men doing it for the sake of doing it. That sounds silly LOL. Austin St. John is the actor who played the original red ranger in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and although fiction, St. John Allerdyce was Pyro in X-Men. They’re just names. Their parents Christened them after particular saints with the “Saint" prefacing it. LOL I believe the tradition started if you came from a LONG LONG LINE of people (a cult or clan) that honoured a particular saint therefore as you were born into this group you would be “Alan” of the “Saint Johns”, for example. As time went by it would be shorted to “Alan St. John”. Do you understand? So, the “Saint” part stays as a signifier of your clan or cult roots in ancient times and your devotion to a particular saint
But I'm referring to people who literally changed their birth name to a new one. I know that there are regular names with St. in them
I have a fictional character in a proposed TV series called Liam St. John. Maybe he ought to be queer by your logic? XD
I’ve never heard of that in real life and the reason I think it may be prevalent is because of the old stripper/porn name formulas. Like, what’s your first pet’s name and your street you grew up on; Scout Vallonion (not true, I have never had a pet nor do I know what the Hell a Vallonion is, I made it up LOL). Hence, you have the perfect stripper/porn star/sexy alias. I DUNNO LOL But I think there might be a similar “Saint” related one- Homer Simpson once changed Marge’s name to represent her new sexy image by offering her the name “Busty Saint Claire”. I think it (if it’s real) may just be another equation for sexy names. Wanna be gay and sexay? Add a Saint name to the mix... you know? I don’t necessarily think it’s to do with gays (this is the first time I’ve ever heard it), I think you just found a coincidence or writers being a tad lazy for names (I loved “Ugly Betty” so don’t think that was an insult LOL). Like, Homer changing his name to Tre Saint Cool...or whatever. But I don’t have an answer for you other than that... Did you want to change your name!? Awesome! Do tell! LOL!
