    This is an old song by songwriter (and gay rights advocate) Fred Small, as performed by the Flirtations, a really wonderful a capella group that was around in the 80s and early 90s.

    As they said when performing the song live, "think of how different you might be... how different the world might be... if parents sung this song to their children growing up."

    I had the chance to see the Flirtations live a couple of times. It was a truly magical experience, and a then-rare opportunity to be around like-minded people and feel completely free to be who you are.
