What does gay pride mean to you? Looking to see what other folks have to say . . . not looking for a dictionary definition, but looking for thought provoking responses, "philosophical" treatment of the topic. Gay pride is . . .
I find it hard to be proud of things I have absolutely no control over. It was not my choice to be gay, white, male, or American, so I can't really say I'm "proud" to be any of those things. So to me, the idea of "X Pride" isn't so much about being "proud," but rather being unashamed. So gay pride to me is really just being gay. Not being ashamed of it, just accepting it and not letting anyone else's notions make you feel bad about it. Basically, it's a sort of "I'm here, I'm queer, get used to it" mentality.
A large group of homosexual lions. Or it could mean just being happy the way you are. Accepting it, embracing it, and displaying it once a year at a colorful parade with lots of Diana Ross music playing (for those of you who don't get the reference, she sings I'm Coming Out).
"...the opposite of gay shame." I don't have "pride" in my sexuality the same way I have pride in my accomplishments. But although I may not be "proud" of my sexuality in that regard, I most definitely am not ashamed of it. To me, "gay pride" is simply "gay not-shame" - a specific move to show that I refuse to be ashamed of my sexuality in any way. Lex
Not being ashamed of being who you are, not having any shame for what you believe in. Being born this way baby!!!
Having a fantastic time with a bunch of amazing people...Pride for me is just a place where I get to go once a year and be myself and not feel judged!
The knowledge that even if I was a puppy kicker, I would still be a far better, far more moral person than Pat Robertson.
geez just say gay pride means *insert good message here* Gay pride is being able to fully comprehend who you are as a person, whether that be black/white, boy/girl, *insert culture here*. it may not be something we have control over but you can always show how much this means to you, to your identity as a person, or as a whole collective of people who are brave enough to live a life without fear, a life with true love. thats what Gay pride is to me, i might not have chose it, but this is a part of me that will shape my life forever.
