I can't believe no one's started discussing Valentine's Day coming up, or else I've just missed it. How does the LGBT community view Valentine's Day? I personally make fudge for all my friends. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I was about to open a thread like this lol ...

I'm planning on making some chocolates for my friends (cover) and my crush (main point xD), but apparently ran out of materials *sob*.

It sucks. Well, I personally don't like it, everyone is happy with their girlfriends/boyfriends, and I'm just....

I don't care. It's a pointless 'holiday'. I don't see why I should favor whomever I'm with on one specific day, rather than every day of the year.

Over-hyped, over-commercialized holiday that is made to make singles feel completely ostracized. All I think of when I think of this holiday is how many couples display smug condescension toward singles.

I don't really have an opinion on it. Although I do have a blog where I post pictures of octopus artwork, so I might do a heart theme or something. Other than that, Valentine's Day means nothing to me.

Thank you! I could not agree more. People always think I'm being cynical when I say I don't like Valentine's Day. However, it is not so much the day, but how people treat it and use it. I personally would rather my significant other show up on a random Tuesday with flowers just because they were thinking of me, rather than on Valentine's Day because convention tells them they must.

I hate it for two reasons:

1.) It's (mostly) a commercial gimmick for businesses to make money.

2.) My birthday is on February 13th, so the brunt of the Valentine's commercials, Facebook posts, internet adverts, etc etc etc happen on my birthday, which do nothing but remind me of my perpetual singleness. So, being the hopeless romantic I am, even though I have a particular distaste for Valentine's Day because of the high commercial aspect of it, it makes me sad because I have no one to be hopelessly romantic with, even if I don't like it.

This. And it's a commercial holiday for companies to make money.
Usually, I don't do anything special that day, except grumble about how companies are exploiting love to make money. The exception this year is the fact that I have a girlfriend and she wants to do dinner.

Well it precedes the 15th and proceeds the 13th.

    I love Valentines day!!!!

Although it's totally fucked up! I have one this year, but I'm ditching him to go to an ANTI-Valentine's day party since all my friends are going! Haha I'm so bad...but I did promise I'd have dinner with him first.

I'm partnered, and as it ends up, it's my anniversary.

That said, it's a complete bullshit holiday that I fully support bringing to a complete end.

Just going to spend it just like any other day...and like others have mentioned, the chocolate all go on sale, now that is where the 'real holiday' is at .

    I personally enjoy valentine's day

I'm not a romantic or anything, but I enjoy pretty much every holiday. They are all commercialized and most of them don't make any kind of sense, but I like seeing the excitement on people faces. I like the idea that the whole nation turns their attention to one single event for one day, whether they like it or not.

Man, it makes me sound corny as faaack, but its true :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Oh, and I'm not doing anything for it really. I wish I could be more creative, but I'm not very good in the thoughtful department. The overdone framed picture with a card will have to do haha

Ugh, don't get me started! I'm just glad when it's over! And of course, being single on that day sucks even more than usual.

The Japanese way of celebrating Valentine's Day is pretty cool though (!) It's the girls who give chocolate to the boys they like, (or girls perhaps...), then 1 month later, on White Day, it's the boys' turn to give chocolate back to the girls they like! So basically it gives a chance to the girls to go after their crush! If you don't get chocolate back on White Day from your crush, then at least you know they're not interested and you can move on
