Oh and clearly I'm watching in hopes that Ryan Gosling goes streaking on stage (that is what you meant by that right?) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I watch because of my love for the movies. Since that wasn't an option I picked Billy Crystal, because I have been known to enjoy the occasional old, Jewish man. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Edit: I've been drooling over Jean Dujardin for months now, but he looks F-I-N-E, FINE this evening.

Meh, I'm not a big fan of movies, and definitely not one of famous people. Count me out.

I watched because I wanted to see if Meryl Streep would win or not. My favorite part though would definitely be when Melissa McCarthy was presenting an award.

    "Martin Scorsese!!!"
    *takes a shot*

apperently she did have a nip slip on the red carpet...

I am kinda disgusted that harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2 was one of the most widely praised films of the oscar season, and it got no love. not to mention it closed off the most successful film franchise ever, and was based on a complicated, and well crafted literary series, which meant that to even do it was one of the biggest undertakings ever in film history.

8 films, and not a single oscar.

So much for having a pedigree of cast and crew, including some of the greatest actors and designers of the modern stage and screen.

I didn't watch any of it. I suppose this means my gay license has to be revoked... here, take it.

    [citation needed]

Of those I experienced, I thought that movies and books ranged from mediocre/simplistic right down to plain awful. Only my opinion, of course, but obviously the Oscar selectors didn't think they were worthy either.

^I'm sorry you feel that way, because there are about a billion people who beg to differ.

I don't know that DH2 was one of the most widely praised films of the season - not with films like The Artist, Hugo, Tree of Life, The Descendants, etc. Honestly, the HP movies were just not up to the standard of the Lord of the Rings movies (this coming from someone who enjoys Harry Potter much much much more than Lord of the Rings). DH2 was absolutely one of the best in the series, and I would have at least liked Alan Rickman and maybe Maggie Smith to get nominations, but beyond that, I'm not too upset. I had big problems with the art direction in the last several movies (their interpretation of "artsy beautiful" was "it's actually too dark to see what's happening"), and I think there were other movies better suited for makeup and visual effects. I'd like to think the Oscar voters denied it visual effects because they were just as pissed as I was about how they chose to do Voldemort's death.

I'm more miffed that Girl With the Dragon Tattoo only won one and Bridesmaids didn't get anything.

well, deathly hallows part to has a freshness rating by professional critics of 96%. I think the artist was 97%, and I think hugo was 95% (though I am not entirely sure on that one), so it is hard to say that it was not deserving.

It was, by and large, a forgettable class of nominees for Best Picture. I only caught the second half, but I thought Billy Crystal did a pretty good job of hosting, and I like the format of having the year's previous actor winners present the actor awards for the opposite gender, too.

the whole telecast just did not feature enough scantily clad ripped young men for my tastes. surely madonna's dancers had the night off
