Era- The 1920's - seemslike it would have been a blast. Or the years right after the civil war, just because it was a time of such change. Or the guild age but only if you have money.
Character- FDR. A great mind with a weak body with a powerful wife. Would be great to get to know.
Event - the burning of the white house. I have this image of Dolly Madison running stuff out to a wagon and I would love to see that - dont ask me why!

I'm a bit bad at history but my favourite historical character would have to be Mozart. If you want to know why, watch 'Amadeus'. It's not an accurate historical portrayal of his life, but his character is hilarious!!

I'm a little bit of a history buff, and I can't just choose one period or event. My favorite historical figure has to be Teddy Roosevelt for sure. That guy was a beast.

I think my favorite historical era is the 1960's.

Favorite historical characters are definitely Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick.

..and I don't have a particular favorite historical event.

I am a big computer nerd. So I would go with the period from 1970 to 1990. So many great things happened back then and there were so many companies your could work for.

The world was wide open, you did not have all of the patent problem you have now. The small guy could come up with an idea that could change the industry.

As for Character. Burell Smith. He was the lead designer on the logic board for the original mac. Total genius who had the same cock eyed view of the world I have. Not too much is known about him, he lead a pretty private life.

Event- The Wright brother first flight. I can't think of a single event in human that marked such a rapid progression in technology. In less than 60 years we went humans getting just a few feet off the ground to putting a man into space.

It's going to be a difficult choice as I really like reading about historical events and history in general.

In terms of era it would be the early modern period, and the modern era, World War One and World War Two. My favourite historical character is Alexander the Great.

As for the historical event, it would be the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). The was ended with the Peace of Westphalia, which established the basis for the modern state system and gave meaning to sovereignty.

    Great thread! I love history.

    Era
I get most excited when I hear of things from ancient, ancient times, especially ancient stories of pre-colonized america(s), australia, africa, england/scotland/wales, ireland, etc. Too many to really list. I also am greatly intrigued by the "Byzantine Empire."

    Historical Character
Too many. Probably Boudicca and whomever inspired the Medusa figure, I heard she was an actual person from the African continent.

    Event
Several. I will try to limit myself. Boudicca's various exploits and the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804) to name a couple.

I find new things all the time. My interests change too.

Rick Riordan has made me love greek mythology :3

I'm also reading a fictional book on Henry VII atm, but I know he's quite popular (not quite as he would've liked), but Tudors are awesome anyway. Romans were cool too, shows how we seriously took a step back.

Recently, has to be the world wars.
