call it what you will, but I'm definitely a nerd, or a geek, or a geeky nerd.

I'm a consummate gamer (sorry site rules say I can't link my boardgamegeek account collection but it has WAY more games than I really need) I play boardgames, video games, role playing games, card games, miniature games

I love collecting, and drawing and painting and watching genre tv and movies...reading fantasy books.

I practically live at a game store.

some people might say this makes me more socially ostraciz-able (if that's not a real word I'm making it one) than being gay and in some cases that may just be true

I was just hoping to see if I had any fellow geek or nerds to converse with on this site

(oh i could also be a nerdy geek)

I'm a nerd in the sense that the games I play are really nerdy. Civilization IV, Europa Universalis and the like. But gaming doesn't take up a huge proportion of my time. I'm also interested in things like learning foreign languages and climate for no apparent reason. On the other hand, I do actually go out. There's nothing that takes up unreasonable proportions of my life except for procrastination.

Does it make me a nerd that people who have Ph.D.s in history (one being ranked professor emeritus at one of the two flagship universities in my state) tell me that I spend too much time reading remote and arcane crap that nobody else cares about or understands, when the material in question is on THEIR subject of specialty? Actually, I've always thought that I went a little bit beyond "nerd" and somewhat into "mutant" territory. My brain is actually so gigantically overclocked that it's prone to every possible kind of malfunction. Take that!

I suppose I've got nerdy/geeky tendencies. Living in a house of all science/eng majors, we usually hold a lot of theoretical conversations and crap, as well as applying what we learned to well, everything. Internet jokes (read: 'memes') are prevalent. Almost all of us game, video and board. We decided a couple weekends ago to attempt to get into DnD... which I unofficially consider the epitome of mainstream geekiness/nerdiness.

Maybe we're more of the 'socially acceptable' geekiness/nerdiness, minus the DnD part...

One of the best things I've done in my coming out process was to join a Gay Geeks group. I've been to several geek-related Pictionary and trivia nights. They're just laid back, fun filled events in a chill environment. Through high school and college, I was heavily into all the X-Men titles, gaming (RPG, fighting, horror), manga/anime, and whatever sci-fi/fantasy movies were out there. More recently, I've drifted into reading urban fantasy (Dresden Files are the best), webcomics, Dr. Who, Sherlock, and now fantasy/sci-fi written by and for gay audiences. If I had only known the last one had existed back in high school...

I consider myself a geek/nerd. When I'm with people all I want to do is play card and board games, and when I'm alone I play video games.

I'm definitely a geek. I'm majoring in physics and math, I taught myself how to program in Python, I spend way too much time on the computer and playing video games...

I am a huge nerd/geek (whatever). Not much of a gamer, I do play a few things. I'm big on Star Trek even though I only started watching last September. I love fantasy books and sci-fie film/TV, and I believe that they tend to be best in those sections for various reasons. I'm currently studying computer science and I also play RPGs. I also tend to ramble when on the internet when I can't think of a decent way to organize my faults or can't find a suitable way to end something. That is all.

I think it is fair to say that I am a nerd. Not only do I hold grammar very close to my heart, but I also have a variety of quirks which I associate both with my introverted nature and my nerdiness. For instance, I have OCD, I don't leave my dorm room except for class, I would rather study than speak to other humans, I get more turned on by reading non-erotic books than I do watching porn, and, of course, I devote Fridays and Saturdays to unlimited Sims playing. I roleplay, read, write, study, beg for compliments from my professors, and I'm convinced that my dog and I speak the same language. Some nights I share a bloodline with the bed and computer, and one can usually find a discarded, recently-purchased, empty bag of pizza rolls on the floor. Yep. I also sometimes go more than twenty-four hours without speaking because I'm so busy not having a life.

I'm a huge nerd and so is my husband and all of his family that we hang out with. We watch Batman, Star Wars, and Star Trek all the time. We play Magic the Gathering and play various video games. We're also huge readers.

Yeah I'd consider myself a nerd in the sense that I'm passionate about so many things. You could call me a jack of all trades. I love foreign languages, musical instruments, problem-solving (whether in a real world or abstract sense), word games, board games, card games, and video games. I'm also quite a spelling and grammar nut. Despite the fact that I don't have a real game console of my own, I'm convinced I'd be hooked if I did! I'm an avid reader at heart but I've been out of practice for so long I've just gotta get back into it. I used to read a lot when I was much younger and I miss it!

I've stop playing much video/computer games since heading to college, but otherwise you can probably throw me into your "nerd count" :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.

hooray for the responses  I knew I wasn't alone!

Traveltech that was an awesome response

I totally forgot that I've always been a major comic book geek...which is really cool with all the movies, especially since I'm finally gonna see my favorite Hawkeye on the screen! (Yay Jeremy Renner!!)

and there's no way I'd discount anyone's nerdiness. it is a natural thing that one feels

also, the committee of nerds, geeks, nerdy geeks and geeky nerds (hereafter known as tcongngagn), officially apologizes for the lack of dork inclusion!

Sounds like a fun house to me! I do that occasionally with my friends (we major in engg too!) when we're bored out of our minds.

I'm a geek too based on my interests. Then again, it took me awhile to understand what DnD refers to (it has a different meaning on dating sites and the likes) so maybe I'm not the best geek spokesperson LOL.

Like Milhouse said, "I'm not a nerd! Nerds are smart."

Now I am smart, really, but not nerdsmart. Though I can understand the occasional math/science joke. I'm a bit of an otaku, though, not so much a "geek." I don't care much for western geek stuff (superheroes, comic books, and such). But I loves my video games, manga, and anime, and the only reason I"m not totally surrounded by figurines of my favorite characters is my lack of money.

    Sweet! More eng majors!

And yes, it's a very fun house. Or at least always interesting. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
