My friends and I, all of us rather silly, decided to hold a friendly erotica writing contest. Our submissions are due on Friday. It's Tuesday. I still haven't even got the foggiest of ideas. Of course, I'll be writing on two guys (vaginas frighten me), and I usually lean towards BDSM. However, I have to take into consideration my audience. It's been forever since I've written any romantic erotica that I'm not sure where to even begin.

It has to be short, so my characters can't develop as we go. They have to be fairly clearly developed already. Or not at all, as this really isn't important.

If I'm not doing bondage, I was thinking of two artists, maybe a cellist and a painter or something like that. Or a writer. I dunno.

Ideas? I've never written this genre for an audience before, lol.

Artists are my kryptonite! But that's just me, and while there is a market out there for them, I think the best way to win is to write what turns you on. If you're into creating it, then the audience will be able to tell.

And character development is very important to me. Just because it has to be short doesn't mean it can't give the people involved some depth. I often find that a character's motivation for their actions is almost more arousing than what the characters are doing.

I dont have much advice, but I thought I'd chime in wih my opinions, for whatever they may be worth. Best of luck with your contest!

Haha thanks. I started writing the artists, but we'll see how it goes. I'm just totally itching to crush my friend in this but at the same time write something our "judges" (five of our friends who may be into some light bondage but I'm getting the feeling they're a little skeptical about the... dirtier stuff (which I use literally. I love cum dumps and golden showers, etc). We'll see how it goes!

The key to erotica is to overdescribe everything. if you can say it in 10 words, and get the point across, say it in 40 words.

That is how erotica is written for a reason. it is all formula. every aspect of it, from the story structure, to characters (character development is frowned upon by most publishers of erotica as being distracting, they want the here and now, not the deep down emotional/intellectual, which is more a element of true, literary romance, not to be confused with haliquian romance, which is nothing more than erotica), to the length is built upon overused archtypes.

also, do not overthink things. erotic literature is rarely ever polished. it is writing quickly, and sent out. As long as you have a good grasp of spelling and grammer, you can pop 300 pages out in 3 months, and 5 books out a year, which is typical of eroticist writers.

    Some key words.

Massage, soft, rubbing, breathing down neck, firm, harder.

    Or just ignore me :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Wait a second guys, I've written erotica before, just never for an audience and never alone. I always co-write. More fun that way. Basically, I was just looking for starting ideas, but I made my decision last night. lol.

I've written tons of smut. Depending on your audience, they may or may not like a nice long story to go with it. Some people want minimal story surrounding a nice long sex scene, whereas others want what is basically a good story with a few sex scenes. I've found that people on imageboards and sites generally catering to porn users like the former, while people on erotic literature sites like the latter.

I used to write it but I never really had an audience for it and stopped lol. They were literally for fun and as an output for my sexual tension. Glad you got your idea together, and let us know how it goes! I think I'll write a new one. It's been a long time.

I don't know how you feel about necrophilia, but my last short erotic story was on that topic. (Idk why it just sorta happened) but it was good. It gave you a feel of mystery, and had a sort of suspense to it. My friends liked it, and moat of my fans on this one site thought it was creative in a dark mysterious way.

I can't do necrophilia. I can do almost anything else, so long as there is no permanent mutilation, blood, scat, or anything with death. Makes me want to vomit. I have a very overactive imagination.

I never finished my entry, but it was about a cellist and a painter. It was much more romantic than what I usually do. The general consensus was that I won anyway because my friend's really... sucked. Even though I procrastinated so much that I never got past foreplay. Well, his girlfriend thinks he won, but she really has horrible taste.

Lol well good job. And I stick to mostly to long stories but that was something that just popped in my head so I went with it.
