For those who have come out to your parents..

I came out to my parents like 4 years ago, and joined EC 2 months ago.

 

I really hope that EC helps me come out soon, it's getting really bored of not being able to be myself...

 

I'm trying to remember. I think it was May of 09 when I cam e out to my parents. I joined here in Nov 08. So that would be roughly 6 months.

Like others said there is no rush. 6 months was the right time for me.

 

I have been out for about six years before finding EC.

 

I've been on EC for almost 7 months now and I still haven't come out to anyone in my family. And it probably won't happen for several years until I'm completely on my own. EC has helped me come out to some friends though

 

Its hard to remember exactly, but I think that I came out to my parents probably 2 months before I joined EC. When shit hit the fan that's when I needed somewhere to find the answers to the million of questions that I had.

Even though I came out before I joined EC, this place really helped me out in completely accepting who I was and in accepting others. Would have probably taken me years rather than months if I hadn't found this place.

 

Took me about three weeks of being on EC But then again, I probs had alreadu spent a year's worth o of time here by then

 

But you're 18 and out to family, I wish I was I just want to be able to talk to my friends about people I like...

As corny as this sounds you'll know when your completely ready

If you don't *want* to do it yet then your not...you'll just know one day that you *have to tell people*...it could be very soon or some time later. But it's for the best as you'll then have the strength to deal with peoples reactions!

 

i told my parents maybe a week or a few days before joining EC, not really sure, although EC is useful with LGBT news and discussion, it didnt really help me with my situation, everything i did myself, although EC is great with it comes from learning from each comment/opinion, i think my upbringing, my curiosity, and arrogance paved an easy self acceptance and a dont worry be happy kind of attitude.

my parents werent the most supportive, but i dont really care, my sexuality is out there thats all that matters to me.

 

I joined EC in February, and came out in April. So, 2 months.
Sort of rushed it, but it turned out all right nonetheless. My parents are fine with it.

 

Apparently, I was only here for two months, but it sure seemed a lot longer to me...

 

My mother was privy to my self-discovery experience, for the most part, and she told my dad pretty soon after I told her I was definitely gay. I didn't join EC until well after I had figured out I was gay (since I found EC by browsing the pages about gay culture on Wikipedia, to try to make the concept seem less foreign to me), so they knew before I joined.

 

I joined last summer and then had a period of inactivity here. I came out to my parents on Christmas, so some five or six months after joining EC, and then I started coming back regularly because I needed some support after their reaction. So, EC didn't really help me much in coming out, but in sorting out emotional troubles later.

 

I came out to my mom in late September, after being on EC for a little over 4 months. I haven't come out to Dad or my stepfamily yet.

Wow, I've been on EC for 361 days -- nearly a year. You guys are awesome!

 

Came out to them yesterday! I'm still so hyped up! Been on EC for exactly 3 months. I think EC helped me in finding courage to come out but mostly in figuring out who the hell I was.

 

I came out to my mom 3 years ago, but spent 15 days on EC before coming out to my dad.
