Will the news media one fine day be saturated with unspeakable bliss and elation about the first alien signal to be caught by Earthlings at SETI? Will such a day ever arrive, even 1000's of years in the future?
While I do believe there is life on other planets, I believe it is unlikely we will ever detect their presence. If we ever do it will just be sheer luck. Though I still fully support looking for them.
^What starfish said. It really would be one fine day if humankind were to receive some form of communication that can be confirmed as being from intelligent beings from another planet. Too bad that day will almost certainly not come in any of our lifetimes.
