How to use the YouTube tag (also, spoiler tags)

    Hey everyone!

As you might have noticed, the YouTube tags don't quite work properly right now. If you try to post a video by including the full URL in the link, the forum software automatically turns your link into a hyperlink, so this:

[YOUTUBE ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KaltD0Z6ww[/YOUTUBE ] (without the spaces)

    Gives you this:

    [YOUTUBE]Dancing Cows? - YouTube[/YOUTUBE]

How to get it to work? You see that unique string of characters after the "watch?v=" part? What you gotta do is copy and paste that string and just that string between the YouTube tags. Then your videos will embed properly. So this:

[YOUTUBE ]5KaltD0Z6ww[/YOUTUBE ] (again, without the spaces)

    Gives you this.

    [YOUTUBE]5KaltD0Z6ww[/YOUTUBE]
Also, to address the confusion about what videos you can and can't post: 99% of the time, posting a YouTube video is a-ok. It just has to comply with the Code of Conduct, which means, among other thing, that you can't post links to any videos posted on your own YouTube account. When in doubt about a video, just ask one of us, or post a thread in Ask The Staff with the link, asking if it's okay. We'd much, much rather answer a question (even if you think it's a stupid one) than issue a ban.

While we're talking about tags, in case you didn't know about them before, let me tell you about spoiler tags!

By writing this in your posts:

[spoiler ]This is hidden from view until you hit the spoiler button.[/spoiler ] (without the spaces in the tags, of course)

    You get this:

This is hidden from view until you hit the spoiler button.
You can use this tag to hide spoilerific plot points in Entertainment and Media, or to put a large chunk of text or a huge picture in an easily minimizable block. There's no button in the post editor for the spoiler tag; you just have to remember that it's there.

    Tell your friends!

I always just unticked the "Automatically parse links in text" and "Automatically retrieve titles from external links" boxes below the submit button. Didn't know you could just insert the extension!

The "Disable smilies" option is also useful when you don't want it to turn this
    Code:
    :o
    into this
:astonished:. Which of course is not anything like what that smiley should be.

I've been using the method thecat06 and Ridiculous mentioned for a long time, though I can see how the method of posting just the unique identifier between the YouTube tags works better, as it doesn't prevent other URLs in the post from being automatically parsed like the method of unchecking "Automatically parse links in text" does.

    TEST, w/o changing default options:
