Just a quick Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canucks on here!

Anyone doing anything exciting today? I'm at work till 11pm, so with a bit of luck I can take the guys here out to the fireworks show later tonight.

Exciting? NO. It's been raining and thundering all day out here on the praries, so I am not sure if I'll even make the trek to the city to see the fireworks...

I worked my first day at my job today. And fireworks, they did a big display of them earlier this week. Not doing anything tonight but maybe going to bed early due to exhaustion from not the greatest night's sleep.

How do people celebrate that in Canada? Fireworks I take it at least, is it at all similar to the U.S.A.'s Independence Day (july 4th)?

I second this. And what historical event inspired Canada Day?

The British North America Act took effect on July 1, 1867, creating the nation of Canada within the British Empire. Total sovereignty came a bit later, but 1867 is when our nation was born.

What we do? Fireworks, drinking, street parties, concerts, drinking, parades, airshows, drinking, BBQs. If you can get to Ottawa on Canada Day, the whole downtown is a big party.

I'm proud as hell to be Canadian! Too bad the fireworks were cancelled here in Saskatchewan because of the thunderstorms...

I went to a friend's house for a BBQ for lunch, then I came home and waited for the fireworks to start.

With all the Canadians here on this thread, I'd like to ask a question:

Is a girl from Canadia called a Canadienne?

It does sound moderately similar to how American's celebrate independence day... at least I think so. At least the parades, fireworks, drinking, and BBQs.

Canada had a pretty fantastic party if I do say so myself! (!)

There are few things better than sitting on a deck with your closest friends all wrapped in blankets watching some fireworks.

It was too rainy to see the fireworks. So I just played board games instead.

I had to work until 10pm, but I saw the fireworks on my way home, and I saw the grand finale from my driveway!

    King x

    EDIT:

No, a girl from Canada is called a Canadian

In French she would be a Canadienne, but both genders are Canadian in English.

didn't see this yesterday... but yay!

I spent yesterday at the fireworks with my mother and baby sister  and came home to a late night glass of wine and some oreo cookies.

glad to see everyone had so much fun... (except for the prairies, wow that kind of sucks. of all the days for a thunderstorm... but I hope you still had a mostly awesome celebration!)
