http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/jan/17/medicalresearch.genetics how the hell is this legal?! i'm all for the advancement of science, but not this. this is crossing the line. nature did not intend for this to happen!
Well...nature never really intended for anything to happen. That's kinda that, um, nature of evolution. But anyways...it seems as if they're using mammalian eggs to assist in creating stem cells. Cells that, according to the article, are 99.9% human in DNA. It sounds like it could be an interesting step in helping to fight disease.
They arnt actualy making a cow human..... They are just using a cow embryo to produce human cells... instead of a human one if you think it is un natural we alreddy use parts of animals to replace worn out valves on the heart in humans...
I researched this in the beginning of the school year. It's just to help disease research. It's not like they're making cow-human hybrids for fun and raising them and sending them off to a slaughterhouse or something. Most of the DNA is human (you can't expect them to get all the cow DNA out) anyway and they're stopping growth at a few hundred cells.
i dont belive they get it from terminated babies.... just the egg from a female... well we eat cows... so we shouldent have any problem using there eggs inless we are vegiarian or vegan... Plus posibly it is more practicle you dont have to weight for a human egg doner you can just take it from the cow if they like it or not...
i can see how it seems alarming, but i studied this in biology, and it's not some "cow-human-cross". basically, you're taking genetic information from a human cell, DNA, and taking an ovum cell from a cow. then you're taking out practically all the genetic info (dna) from the cow ovum. this means that the ovum is no longer truly a "cow" cell, it is simply organic material created by a cow, if you like. the the human dna is put in the ovum. this makes the ovum have human genes, but the actual gloopy stuff-ness of the cell (if u get me) is from a cow. does that make sense? so it's not some wierd creature with a cow's head and human body or anything
It sounds bizarre, but hopefully it will be something that will benefit people in the future. I'm not sure how/whether this will benefit people, but i guess that is why they are testing.
Greeks already did it. And back in those days they didn't have genes. As you can clearly see in the picture...no jeans. Haha! Diablo figured it out too!
hmm.... no. I don't think so 0 This is an interesting concept - potentially it could stop the far right from raging about embryonic stem cells (which basically are harvested through an abortion).
Actually...this is kind of what i want to do in my career. I want to take baby embryo's and try to manipulate their gene's and maybe try to make some to do photosynthesis, a human that can fly, all sorts of experiments with human embryo's...
