If you could pick one state, which one would it be? |

| Guest | Considering the state that if I chose to continue living in the US already has legalized gay marriage, I would have to say I'd pick California, since it's the most populated and it'd affect the most people. |

I am, however, somewhat confused as to where California stands on the legalization of gay marriage. I don't actively keep up with it, but I always see things on the news where Prop 8 is about to be repealed, it gets repealed, and then the next day, they're going to postpone the date when people can get married, and then another day, it's not legal anymore...I don't even know our status as of now. |

Both states have come close (Cali with the repeal-ish of Prop 8, NJ almost had it until that bastard Christie veto'd it after it got past the normal voting), but we're not quite there. |

I can't see people voting to keep it illegal in both. Maryland will be a tough call. As for what SHOULD be next, California. And then Florida. All of the most popular states. They'll rapidly speed up the process. ![]() |

The status is pending in Washington and Maryland (there will be pubic referendums in November). | |

Similarly, I'd think Oregon would be a good choice considering Portland, but I don't know what the rest of the state's like. Isn't the Northwest rather liberal?

| The Naive One Full Member ![]() Gender: Male Orientation: Gay Out Status: Open to all at Uni Location: upstate New York (For University) Age: 18 Posts: 1,176 Join Date: Jul 2012 | I'd say California, not just because I currently live there but also because CA is just one of those states where progress happens and it puts that progress onto other states. I would say, in many ways, New York and California are the two leaders of the US. Its the population but also the forward thinking way. Throughout history, it seems that they have been hubs of change. CA is a HUGE market for the US. If it was to become its own country, it would be in the top ten economies of the world. CA has the largest port in the US and gets most of the imports from China. It has the most US Representatives out of any state. Legalizing same-sex marriage affects not only Californians but pressures other states to follow. I remember that CA pushed to raise automobile standards. After a few years, Obama does so. The impact it has affects a very large amount of people and helps propel this process. Just my insight.

Location: Deep in the Heart Age: 20 Posts: 1,177 Join Date: Jul 2011 | I feel like it's only a matter of time for California, really. I'd love to see Texas do it. Considering it's the second most populous in the nation and largely seen as a bastion of conservatism, if it by some miracle happened here, the other red states would basically have to follow. But it's going to be slightly behind average like it historically has been on many social issues. Really though, Texas has been growing ridiculously fast in population, and the much of that growth is coming from migration from more liberal states, so it might happen sooner than expected. |

I find it so unbelievable that it hasn't already. But I'm glad it's making progress, even though it's going at a snail's pace. Last edited by fleetingwells; 27th Jul 2012 at 10:50 PM.. |

| EC's Film Moron Full Member ![]() Gender: Male Orientation: Gay Out Status: Out to everyone Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico Age: 18 Posts: 2,009 Join Date: May 2008 | Illinois is the most likely candidate. The majority of the population and politicians are seemingly in favor of it up there, and there's some court cases with good looking outcomes working their way up there right now. New Mexico has a chance as well. It's the only state that doesn't allow SSM, yet doesn't have any laws against it either. All laws against it have failed, but the attempt to legalize it there has failed. And marriages are apparently recognized there as well. There's no legal law that says they can be recognized, but since there isn't at the same time, most people there just consider out of state marriages valid. It's hard not to write "here" when writing all that, since I'm moving to New Mexico in a few weeks. Looking forward to it. ![]()
