Hey all, for those of you who are in college, I'm curious as to what classes you'll be taking since for most universities (at least in the US) classes start at the end of Aug or beginning of Sept.

Also, what is everyone's college degree major?

For me, since I've already gotten degrees, I'm just taking a Spanish and Portuguese class so that I can get my qualifications to teach romance languages to secondary and post-secondary students.

I'm a Freshman this year. I'm majoring in Professional Writing, and minoring in Computer Science. Most of my classes are just Gen-Ed classes. I have Biology, College Algebra, Fictional Writing, Computers for Learning, and GEP 101 (a class that all Freshman have to take).

My high school had dual-credit classes. Basically, you could take college classes while in high school (and at half the price). I got English 110 and History 121 out of the way through dual-credit.

    I'm taking:
    Beginning German
Intro to Japanese Culture (Not that I need this...)
Japanese Literature in Translation II (Though I never took I, but the professor assured me that I didn't need to)
Intro to General Phonetics (With the same professor that I had for Phonology last semester, whom I absolutely HATED)
Terminology and Computer-assisted Translation (A translation studies class)

I don't know what to think of my classes, quite a few of them I chose because the options were very limited. :icon_conf
I was always excited when picking classes for the next semester, but I wasn't for this one. =/

    English Literature major here.

    I'll be taking:

Eng Lit Seminar: Literature & the Post-Human — It's completely sci-fi literature, and that genre is my particular favorite. So, I'm really stoked for this one!

Comparative Lit: Great Myths & Legends — Particular focus on Greek & Roman mythology.

LGBT Studies — Queer Representation in Visual Culture: Images and cultural conceptions of the LGBT community across film, TV, and art.

    Introductory Vietnamese: Pretty self-explanatory, lol.

I'm going to be a sophomore and I'm a Computer Science major.

    I'm taking:
Physics Laboratory for Scientists and Engineers: Mechanics
Physics for Scientists and Engineers: Oscillations, Waves, Electric and Magnetic Fields
    Calculus of Several Variables II
    English Composition, Rhetoric, and Language
    Software Construction Laboratory

My head is going to hurt by the end of the quarter.

I will be a sophomore majoring in pharmacy

    - Organic Chemistry I + Lab
    - Physics + Lab
    - Death and Dying
    - Power, Democracy, and Oppression
    - Nature

I hope I do well in these courses so that I don't have to retake them. Plus, my spring schedule will be so light in comparison to this one.

I am in university currently doing a joint honours degree in history and politics. As I am from England the educational system is much different and more specialised. All I have to take is history and politics modules. As I am in my last year, I have to do a dissertation which I am so excited about, its focusing on the Rwandan genocide. I never got the American university system, but as they say each country to their own.

My schedule's really messed up; I'm missing a whole bunch of courses over the year since the department decided to screw around with things. So tentatively I'm taking:

    - Partial Differential Equations for Engineering
    - Technology and Society
    - Engineering Mechanics (basically statics)
    - Thermodynamics of Multicomponent Systems
    - Phase Transformations (sooooooooo excited!)

Oh yeah, materials engineering + society major. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Freshman here... thinking of dual majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with a minor in Business Admin.

    Fall classes look like this:
Transition to MATLAB (Computer science) (I know Java... not MATLAB)
    Intro to Engineering: Energy
    Engineering Seminar
First Year Writing - European Governments and LGBT
    Multivariable Calculus(II) for Engineers
    Physics II: Electromagnetism
    Swimming
SCoRE - Student Curriculum on Resilience Education (mandatory for this leadership scholarship thing I got)

Hmm... I've never heard anyone call Multivar Calculus, Calculus for Several Variables xD
I'm seriously jealous.... I can't take Physics III: Oscillations, Waves, and Quantum Physics because of the math requirements so I'm retaking Physics II and not accepting AP credit since i have no more major science classes to take >.<

Can't wait for Differential Equ's next semester xD
Oh, and I was going to take a Tech & Society class but my schedule was full =\
Also, whats a society major? I've never heard of it O.O

    organic chemistry II
labcourses organic chemistry I and analytical chemistry II
    analytical chemistry III
    Biochemistry I
    physical chemistry I
    Inorganic chemistry I
    processing technics
and some sort of compulsory *social* subject. No idea what it will be this year, last year I had psycho by Freud, Riemann and all the others.

haha, I'm lucky I don't have english classes as well (I'm from switzerland :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:) and our lab courses will take a day per week. But I have to admit it will be only analytical or organic lab course at once.

I'm going for Creative Writing, but for second year it still counts as university transfer, so I have to take a little bit of everything.

Next semester (my college only registers a semester in advance) I'm taking Advanced Composition, 20th Century literature, "Writing a novel", Introductory Statistics (again), and Basic Spanish.

I'm going to see if I can get Compassionate Withdrawal from the Stats course I failed last fall, now that I'm legally disabled (ADHD).

I'd never heard it called that either until I got to UCLA, but that's what they decided to call it. If you want to come out to LA and take my physics class for me you're more than welcome to lol I'm not a big fan of physics, I'm good at it I just don't enjoy it very much, I much prefer chemistry and biology.

MATLAB course? I would die. MATLAB really isn't that bad, but it's just different enough from normal programming to make things annoying as hell, IMO. I also learned Java and it wasn't much help... well, I guess you'll know how to set up if statements and loops and things, which is good. The messy part of MATLAB is all the issues around matrix operators and sizes and making sure your inputs are appropriate; the programming itself isn't too hard.

In short, I find it really hard to visualize. (but it also probably is because they never really taught us how to use it, just kind of threw assignments at us and expected us to figure it out) v_v

And eww, electromagnetism. So happy I never have to take that again :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Differential equations is gonna be the death of me. Well, DE's aren't too bad, but PDE's are messy from what I know of them... plus we still haven't learned any practical applications of this calc yet in our field, so right now it's just math for the sake of math, which sucks. v_v

At our school, you take a general first year in engineering, then you apply to a specialization before second year. You can apply to any of the technical parts (elec, mech, chem, materials, etc.) and you can also optionally apply to an add-on: Eng + Management, + Society, or + International Studies.

What the add-on does is basically extends your program from 4 to 5 years long, splits your core technical courses over those years, and adds in some business or society/sustainability courses in years 2-4. Helps to round out the technical side of things, theoretically brings your GPA up since those courses are typically easy (and you're taking less hard tech courses at once), and usually teaches you some valuable soft-skills (professionalism, résumé writing, how to draft reports, proper presentations, etc.)

Basically, it's a program for awesome people.

    I'm a Criminal Justice major entering my senior year, and this fall semester I'm taking;

I already got most of my classes out of the way. Next semester I only have one more mandatory class to take, so I'm going to have to fill my schedule with some random ones that look interesting, just so I can stay a full-time student. I can't believe I'm almost done. x_x

Transfering from the community college where I worked on my basic liberal core to a 4 year university to get my B.A. in English.

I am taking 1st year french, and modern short story. with my learning disabilities, i can do a maximum of 9 credits before I get overwhelmed and start automatically failing classes.
