Is there any philosophy or goal that keeps you going in life in spite of adversities you face? I keep going because I hope to make something of myself.

What keeps me going are the memories of my sophomore year of college, which was unequivocally the best time of my. Most of my life before then was generally dismal, and I thought things had finally turned around for good. They didn't, but what keeps me going is the thought that things have turned around before, and they can do it again.

I'm enjoying the ride too much to want it to stop.

The unexpected. The fact that I don't know where I'll end up is a curiosity that keeps me going. I'm a student, and I want to see the results of my hard work

Music. I live for music - for all the songs I already have/know that I love and for all the songs I have yet to hear and have yet to fall in love with. There's nothing like finding those perfect songs that just spell out your life and that make you cry because they're so beautiful.

Psychology and the possibility of the end of the world. Psychology because people are innately interesting and I forget a lot that there are people out there going through the same thing I am, and I might as well try and help people out with their problems to help sort out mine, because I tend to distort stuff about myself a lot so it's nice to take an outsider's perspective on things. Also psychology is just really really interesting to me and it makes me feel like a person I guess. And the apocalypse because if it happens in my lifetime and I die in it, it means I will have seen everything I could have possibly seen for being born when I was. I know it sounds stupid but it helps somehow.

Pets, and a seemingly innate, solipsistic distastefulness toward the thought of non-existence.

Truthfully as sad as it is my boyfriend, we have been dating for like only 9 months but yet it feels like if he left I might as well die.
In fact he is probably the reason I haven't already tried to seriously injure myself.

My cat. If it weren't for him I'd have given up long ago.
Television, because if I weren't here I'd miss so many new episodes. xD
    My imagination.
Goals and dreams that I can't achieve if I am not around.
My faith (without sounding like a crazy religious zealot).
EC - I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself, "If I log on to EC, I'll feel so much better." and it works.

Knowing that soon enough I'll be able to move out and go far away where nobody knows me and start over.

The future. I always want to see what innovations and ideas and just everything that we'll make/come up with in the future. That and my love for the sax.

Misconceptions about the future. Being too scared to actually kill myself. I dunno really. I have huge ambitions and dreams, but then I also really want to die. It's a constant battle with myself.

My boyfriend. He is my friend and my lover. He cares for me so much, and the sex is amazing. As few have a fairly open relationship, I even get to enjoy other beautiful men. I like having my hands in the cookie jar even after I've had my cookie.

My friends. Not those useless people on Facebook. Not those people that text you once every 3 months - 6 months to see if you are still alive, but those amazing people I speak with almost every day that make me feel loved.

My family. Though we don't get to see one another much, they are there for me when I need them. I came from a good home.

My kitty. I love it when it cuddles with me and purrs. When he bites me and we wrestle, and he when comes and says good morning and rubs his snotty wet nose on my face.

My comfortable Western life.I go and see as many movies as I want, eat as much as I want, and blast my music as loudly and long as I want. I pretty much do what I want, when I want, with little obstruction.

Life ain't too shabby. Just wish I didn't have to share it with the crazy religious nutjobs and homophobes, but at least they are constantly miserable. As long as I avoid the LGBT Issues section of this site, I can usually get through a day without blinding rage.

Same as speedboy3's first reason: to see what the next day, year, or decade, will bring in terms of developments in technology and society. I'm particularly excited about developments in prosthetic body parts and brain-computer interface technology.
