I'm not the kind of person who drinks every weekend and I've not been drunk to the point of vomiting or not remembering things, I just like beer for how it tastes.

I have several alcoholic friends as well, which is definitely a deterrant. However, I was raised to enjoy a good beer, and definitely do. I will be 21 (legal age here) in a few months, but my parents have always been lenient since they know I don't overdo it. I often have wine or a beer with dinner, or will have a few when I'm chilling with the guys and watching a movie, playing pool, etc. I never do shots, because my intent when drinking is to enjoy the taste, not to get a buzz. I've never gotten drunk to the point of getting sick or having a hangover, and I aim to keep it that way.

When I was young, if I wanted to try a family member's drink, they would let me. It was never stigmatized, so I had no rebellious desire to drink in high school. The first time I drank with friends was after my senior prom. But now I'm in college and I party when I can. I will probably rarely drink after I graduate. |

It is mostly a medication thing but I really don't like to anyway. Last month I drank at my brother's wedding and that was because I had to dance, that was the first time I have drank anything in two years, so needless to say I am a light weight. |

| EC Addict Full Member Gender: Male Orientation: Gay Out Status: Some people Location: Virginia Age: 30 Posts: 756 Join Date: Apr 2012 | I'm legal and I don't drink. I've always refused to drink and do drugs. I knew struggling with being gay and being depressed, along with the long history of severe alcoholism in my extended family, that I was at high risk. I didn't want to take chances, so I avoided booze; I was afraid it'd become a coping mechanism. It's also a product of the way I grew up. It was never in my home. My parents never drank, because of my mother's experience growing up with a father who was an extremely abusive alcoholic. She just didn't feel comfortable having the stuff in the house, and we never really socialized with people who drank. I've had some wine a few times, and wouldn't mind sampling some really good stuff. I also tried some heavier stuff like Rum, it tasted like rubbing alcohol to me - very nasty. I could never stand the smell of beer. I guess booze is just an acquired taste that I don't have much interest in acquiring. I wouldn't mind a cocktail with friends, some wine or champagne for special occasions, etc. But outside of that, I don't really have much of a desire to drink at all. I never really understood the appeal of people getting totally wasted, I'm assuming it's more fun than it looks, because people who get that drunk normally look and act completely stupid. |

Even after that I never really got into it. I like a mild buzz once in a blue moon, but that's about it. I go to clubs/raves/concerts sober a lot (no hard drugs either, and rarely herb), which is ironic because I take a bus instead of drive anyway, lol! Nobody ever makes a big deal out of it, so I figure it can't be too uncommon. Anyone need a DD? ![]() Alcohol makes me too drowsy to dance anyway. Caffeine on the other hand ![]() |

I don't even like to stay up late! XD On some rare occasions I might drink vodka, but no more than two shots. I've only done so like twice, maybe thrice.

I've also has addictions to a couple of other substances in my life. Mainly amphetemines, ketamine and weed. Although I have managed to not use them for a good couple of months and hope that I can keep it this way. My drinking also ties in pretty closely with my family history. My mums ex was a massive shithead of a man and an alcoholic. Then you have my mother and her current boyfriend who also drink like fish, although the use it to cope with all the stress, stress which I then have to deal with. Although I am responsible for my own actions (i.e. drinking) and that is why I have began to start working through my problems because I don't want to be like them when I'm 50. For example calling my step brother "drink stopper" as though it was a joke, it's not a joke it's something that has massively impacted my life so far!! |

But it's pretty common here. Legal drinking age is 16, so you kinda grow up with it. I usually drink with friends (or other social settings), and never with the intention to "just get drunk". I do get drunk quite often though. BUT I never threw up because of too much alcohol, I never forget what happened the night before (one of my close friends forgets everything when he drinks too much) and I hardly ever have a hangover (like once a year maybe). And if I do have one it doesn't last for more than an hour or two. |

Well, I can answer the "I'm legal" part, but the rest depends on how you define "drink". Do I drink alcohol at all? Yes. Do I drink alcohol much? Not really. Do I drink alcohol to excess? Definitely not. I still haven't been drunk at age 42. Lex |

XD Location: California Age: 24 Posts: 8,088 Join Date: Mar 2008 Tournaments Won: 5 | Nope. I've had literally like a sip or two of alcohol, and all I can remember is how horrible it was. xD That's not to say I never will drink on occasion, but as of now, I don't drink at all. For my 21st birthday, I was given a bottle of wine. It's still in my room somewhere. Lol. I don't even want to know how it is right now. It's bound to be horrible. xD I consider that a good thing though. Family has a history of alcoholics. My sisters have issues with it too, but they for the most part, have been better at not drinking. I've been working overtime the past few months when something bad happens to stir the sister living here still to go for comfort food rather than alcohol. Sure, it doesn't help the health or weight, but it's better than her getting drunk and doing something stupid again.

I'm the same age as you and don't drink now, nor have I ever tried. Yeah, people always wonder why, and I'll go to bars with friends and that can seem kinda awkward being the only one not drinking, but honestly I just do other stuff. I would like to find other people who don't like to drink cause there definitely don't seem to be many of us.

For almost two years I was a party monster, completely wasted every weekend. But then that segued into "Wine of the Week" as my friends and I got tired of the party scene and stuff. My friends and would go (sometimes we still do) to random stores and just buy a ton of wine to try it out, find our favorites. Now, we might go out twice a month if that, and I might get the occasional margarita if I'm out to eat with someone and I'm having a bad day or something like that, but that's about it.

I find it relaxes me and makes me a lot more confident. I don't get bad hangovers either. In short, I love alcohol, but I love it in moderation and I know when to stop c: |

My father is/was an alcoholic, so I have no desire to touch the stuff. I find it pointless - why should I rely on a drink to have a good time? I get a lot of stick for not drinking, but I really don't care - what benefits does drinking serve?

Alcohol's all fine and dandy to kick back with and help unwind, but I never got the whole getting completely sloshed bit. I never needed booze to have a good time, and I sure as hell get a lot of backlash for not doing so, but to each their own I think. ![]()

Like sex and being a grown up, it lost a lot of its wonder once I found out the hype was just hype. Rum and coke is nice. |
