If you could go back in time what decade would you have loved to have experienced and why? Myself? probably the 50s I've got a bit of a weakness for smart men in sharp suits, clean shaven, with smoothed down short hair! (if you've seen Mad Men you get the picture) Any decade counts.. be adventurous, but don't forget to explain why! For the sake of this thread and to keep it lighthearted, the decade, we could go back in time to, will be fully supportive of our sexual preferences ...
Why the 50s? That was probably the most culturally conservative and sexually repressive decade of the 20th century, at least in the U.S.; maybe it was different in the U.K. It was sort of a defining feature of that decade, retreating into religion after the end of WWII... But Mad Men actually takes place in the 60s, and I agree with you I'd love to experience that decade first-hand. The early 60s were like you describe with the suits, then by the late 60s... :newcolor: I'd also like to see the 1920s, the 1970s, and the 1900s. I'd like to see the 1930s despite the Depression, I guess just as an observer.
Rakkaus, Mad Men was the example of the look not an example of the decade, didn't make myself clear, sorry.. I was thinking UK and the time machine would take us back to the decade of our choice but WITHOUT sexual repression.. Think every decade has had some pretty crap politics... I also agree with you end of 50's early 60's men.. However, music, fashion, films, individuals (Jesus is a good one Skydiver!), actors, authors all count! Would quite fancy to have dinner with Oscar Wilde, could prove interesting! Haha
Barring the politics of the times, I would love to live through Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, and all the other nerdy things I loved about the 90's again =)
Sexyback and Fergalicious. Justin Timberake still sang and Fergie still sang well. Bring me back to 2006.
I would say the 1810s, the time when Jane Austen was writing. I'll also want to travel back to the 1920s and the 1990s.
I'd say I'd probably like to go back to the 1820s, when Jedediah Smith and such were trailblazing to California. I would've loved to have seen the west when most of it was relatively untouched by pioneers. Other than that, the 1860s (right before the frontier was closing), the 1770s during the birth of the United States, any decade during the Pax Romana (except the Nero days), and the 1960s would also be neat to experience.
1590's, Elizabethan England. ---------- Post added 18th Sep 2012 at 08:36 PM ---------- Oh and also the 1630's/1640's in Holland during the Dutch golden period. In both cases, I'd be sure to bring with me plenty of antibiotics and toilet paper.
1920's and buy all of the coke stock i could buy in my grandpas name and come back to the future and sell it all. ( then do the same with apple and microsoft.)
i would go for the 1700's, back when life was simple and people were not made famous via machines, but because of hard work.....
Definitely the '60s! I've always loved that decade! ---------- Post added 20th Sep 2012 at 01:18 AM ---------- Love the patterns, geometric shapes, hairstyles, fashion everything!!
I really enjoyed the 80s and got six good years out of that decade. I'd go back to the 80s for sure...
