When you're sitting on a train or plain or whatever and you have one or more people between you and the isle. If you have to pass them, do you give them the ass or the crouch?

Does it differ if you like the person?

I haven't given it any thought. Probably the crotch though as I would normally face the people I was passing to acknowledge their help by moving their legs or whatever.

most likely my ass would be facing the person. i don't want people to have a front row seat at viewing my crouch when i am passing them. it doesn't matter if i lke them or not, i just think it is proper manners to do so.

Not sure - probably depends on just how much space there is to work with.

Oh - and Levi - I know English isn't your first language (tho' I only recently realised that, LOL) - so I presume the word in the thread title is meant to be "etiquette".

If so, and you'd like me to change it - just let me know.

I tend to face those I am passing by, so I said crotch.

I'm not sure I think it's different depending on where I am.

LOL! I'm glad we got that 'etiquette' and 'crotch' thing sorted, I was wondering what this was all about.

I have always been told that you face anyone you are sidling by, like at the movies or the theatre. You usually say 'thank you' for them making way for you as you sidle by. If you keep your back to them, you are just ignoring them, and it is very bad manners.

I keep thinking of that scene from "Fight Club"... "Shall I give you the crotch or the ass?"

I give them the hip. Just turn slightly so you half-face them. I can fit like that.

  12. Re: A question of ethicet

I'm with Midget -- give them the hip. IMHO, it's infinitely less awkward that way.

Yeah I stole it from Brad Pitt in Fight Club

The hip? Must be nice flying first class. :icon_wink

I now have a notebook which says "crotch etiquette" on it btw.

I stilt-walk awkwardly through, lifting my foot after foot high up to me and placing it precisely in any available space.

I usually turn so that my butt faces them, because I think it's easier to manouvre yourself so that you don't touch them. In a cinema I usually face them so that Im able to say thankyou for trying to make room for me
