So I heard an interesting new term yesterday, Quiltbag. It stands for...

    Q - queer and questioning
    U - unisex, undecided
    I - (cannot remember what I was)
    L - lesbian
    T - transgender
    B - bisexual
    A - asexual, ally
    G - gay

Pretty sure that's what it was. I think it's an interesting term to use to describe everything, but what does everyone else think of it?

    I think it sounds stupid.

Then again, I don't really like the whole 'LGBT' business either.

I reckon it's fun but too long; I prefer LGBTetc/LGBTQ/LGBT* or similar, or if I want to be technical the GSM (Gender and Sexuality Minorities). You can also extend the QUILTBAG one...

    Q ueer
    U nsure
    I ntersex
    L esbian
    T ransgender
    B isexual
    A sexual
    G ay
    P ansexual
    I ndeterminate
    P olyarmourous
    E veryone

... but then it's got even more length and repetition issues, becoming almost meaningless. The fact that you're trying to include every label also creates a problem in that genderqueer and related terms being left out is conspicuous, whereas in LGBT they're implied.

I'm not fond of it either. For me, it's because LGBT only encompasses four identifiable groups when I'm referring to everyone and anyone who doesn't fall under the straight banner. Still, it's easier to use, because at least when someone hears LGBT they know they're dealing with something along those lines.

I suppose Quiltbag and Quiltbagpipe fix that problem, but really...while they're fun, they aren't much more than that. Not for me anyway. I have a hard time seeing that catch on.

Nice try, but it's still an acronym. I recommend the use of queer instead, and I will argue strenuously against any acronym.

    Also, we're definitely not quiltbaggers.

It's a nice name. Fun too. But I can see a lot more people pulling a confused face over it than LGBT. And let me tell you now, the amount of people who ask me what LGBT stands for worries me...

It's kinda fun to say, but it sounds like it's about something else entirely. "The QUILTBAG community." I don't know, but at first glance it's like we're all about making bags for quilts or something.

My only problem using queer as a general term is that a lot of people, straight or not, tend to associate it with all sorts of terrible things. But I do prefer that over a lot of other terms.

And quiltbaggers...some of us might be. It has me rolling. :roflmao:

I think it looks like an ugly word :/ sorry...

But I'll just stick with LGBT etc because just don't like the term "queer."

Lol yeah I personally think it's fun/funny but too long, and I'd probably get many funny looks if I brought it up with friends and whatnot. Just wanted to see what others thought of it
