Anti-Obama Teen Kristen Neel's Tweet About Moving To Australia Triggers Heated Twitter Backlash

Some Georgian moronic woman-child, after the Obama win: "I'm moving to Australia, because their president is a Christian and actually supports what he says".

I wonder how hard Julia Gillard, our female, atheist prime minister chuckled at that one.

My favourite short reply was: "I'm Australian, and if all the Americans who dont support Obama move here I'm moving to the US"

The article links to 37 other people expressing the same or similar sentiment. Is all hope lost? Is the state of education really that bad across the pacific? How can someone be so utterly stupid as to proclaim that they want to move to a country extremely more socialised than what Obama would be able to turn the USA into in even his wildest dreams?

I found this marvellous rebuttal below the article, it's worth reposting:

FYI the highest income tax threshold in australia is about 45%

i'm not really having a go at all americans, i'm just shocked that so many people don't even bother knowing anything about what they're talking about before talking about it.

Hahahahaha this is so true! A lot of Americans complain about how bad the situation is in their country, but then when someone finally steps up who wants to change things, or God fordbid actually tries to do so, they act like America is being ruined. No, this man is actually trying to make it better!

Also, Australia would be the worst choice for an American looking for a "better" place, it's so expensive! Everything is literally about 6 times as expensive in Australia as it is in the US :/

I'd think the comparatively high minimum wage more than compensates for the high cost of living.

I've met a lot of people here in Texas that can't name all 50 states, let alone locate them on a map. There is no way they are going to know anything about other countries.

It actually doesn't. I'm on exchange in the US now (I'm from Europe), and there are some Australians as well, and they are buying soooo much stuff that they just can't afford back home.

Grew up in rural-ish area, and they definitely couldn't. Now, living in a larger city, it isn't really any better.

That is american conservatisem for you. It is a movement crafted by people who arent stupid, but simply corrupt, who know that if you indulge the stupdity of unworldly people who prefer to be told rather then to think for themselves, you can utilize those kinds of people to create power.

it is the opposate of progressive movements, which are built on a scientific and culture understanding of a world that is constantly changing. There, people have to be able to explain themselves and their views, and base them in something other than superstition and heresay.

That is why there is no liberal equvilant to birthirisem.

Conservatisem says that global warming is a hoax, but cant tell you in any way how the science is wrong.

progressives can explain the concept of green house gases, what causes them to trap heat, and point to all the sources that are man-made, and the readings showing the growing trend of these gases in our atmosphere.

conservatives say that the earth is six and a half thousand years old, cavemen rode on dinosaurs, and fossils were placed in the ground by satan to confuse us, and get us to deny god.

a movement is only as strong as its weakest link, so dont bother arguing me about these points until you force those people out of your movement, because they are the ones in power. don't believe me, check how many republican presidential cannidates from the last few primary cycles say evolution is real.

on the second part, thank goodness. I thought almost all republicans take vaccines and flu shots and antibiotics for granted.

I had a "friend" that informed me during our senior year of high school that she didn't know where Canada was. She thought it was somewhere in the middle east. *facepalm*

Yep. It would laughable but it's just too pathetic.
