Is there anyone here who doesn't like xmas?

What are your reasons and how do you deal with it?

Social obligation to make retailers rich, and I have to be bored around a bunch of people I don't like, family, for an extended period of time.

I just suck it up and do it anyway.

    There are three Christmases

One of them is a religious observance which holds no meaning for me

Another is an overly commercialised, advertised crock of shit designed to drive sales

The last is really the effect of the former two, it happens to be the time when most families in the western world come together for a day and bond, which is lovely. Tim minchin does a great song about it which I will post a song about when back on the computer and off the phone...

For me the meaning of Christmas is to be around family and people you love. Since I'm single and I don't have any family, Christmas is a time of year when I feel lonely and depressed. :tears:

I usually spend the festive period with friends, pretending to have a good time, whilst in reality I just want to get it over with and go back to work. :bang:

Don't I just sound like a barrel of laughs :roflmao:

I can see why people may not like Christmas. The thing that I don't like is how the younger generation (Kids), think Christmas is for getting gifts not giving gifts to their love ones.

    yes =)

Exactly how i feel about Christmas.

We also have a Seventh Day Adventist wing of the family, through a great uncle and great aunt. We are always invited to my great uncle's house on the last sunday before Christmas to enjoy an extended family barbecue day, there are songs and stories and really wholesome fun. The first time i went i expected to hate it, but i really really love it and look forward to it every year now. No-one is offended when my father and i decline to pray.

This is the reason why I oppose to most holidays. Christmas and Valentine's Day seem to be the worst though, it's about nothing but spending money.

But hey, I'll go to my parents and suck it up. At least they aren't religious either, so none of that to deal with. And we don't do gifts. Unfortunately they do slightly participate in the commercialised version of christmas by buying excessive amounts of expensive food "because it's christmas". No, it's just another two days of the year

My suggestion was "to hell with traditions, let's have a bbq in the backyard with our winter coats, scarves and beanies on". They didn't want to join.

anyone who likes Xmas is petty bourgeois fooled by the system into spending money for an arbitrary, over-hyped holiday

What if they like christmas and don't buy any presents?

Not really... I like xmas because it's a time when the whole family come together and share (usually) personal gifts. It's nice to get gifts that you want/like without having to tell the person what you want. It shows that there actually are people who know you, despite how lonely times can get.

    All the best.

Well that's a pretty broad assumption.

You don't need a holiday to buy someone a gift.

If they only ever buy you a gift on Christmas and no other time, they are only even doing it on Christmas out of obligation and not because they care. If they really cared, they wouldn't need a holiday to do it.

I don't like the season in general, it's the most stressful for me. I've had to move all the time at Christmas, most bad things that happen to me usually happen around this time of year. That and the fact my birthday is 5 days before Xmas it's always sucked, so I don't like Christmas cause I don't get a birthday.

Sue me for feeling like that, but it's the one day of the year that's "My Day" and it seems to just get pushed under the rug. Always had a bitter taste in my mouth about it.
