I can relate to that. I can't understand how English is their first language at all.

 

Sometimes at my classmates.

 

happens all the time.... actually, i've noticed it even more since moving to Australia. for example, the misuse of "your" & "you're" along with the general misuse of apostrophes. annoys me to no end!

also, Aussie English is just strange in general lol.... <- silly American

 

I very rarely venture onto facebook for this very reason. I get incredibly angry at peoples inability to spell. I am not the best speller, nor do i have the best grasp of grammar. But some of the examples online are just upsetting. The ones that really get me are things like:

'ov' instead of 'of'. Its not even abbreviating it!
'na' instead of 'no'. It just makes you look like a chav, stop it.
'ur' instead of 'your' or 'you're'. It takes the same amount of time to type the full word! and most smartphones have predictive, there is no excuse!

I say we all go into the streets armed with dictionaries and just hurl them at people in an attempt to increase the average IQ of society.

 

My pet hate is 'would of', instead of 'would have'. Bugs me no end.

 

Absolutely. I have one friend that I refuse to communicate with online or through texts because she's almost impossible to understand. Even more terrifying? She's about to become a mother.

 

Yup, sometimes reading the mistakes people make when it comes to syntax and grammar makes me feel like Jules from Pulp Fiction. "English, motherfucker! Do you speak it!?"

Maybe they're just trying to be kvlt.

Yes. Basic words mispelled make me furious.

The usual traps like your & you're I can forgive, mainly coz I'm not 100% confident with them myself but know & no? You must be joking...

 

I have dyslexia and I do all those things I do know the difference, but some days I accidentally typed the wrong word, but you can normally understand what I'm trying to say. When I was in early teens nobody can understand my writing but with a lot of hard work I can somewhat type.

I apologize if I'm one of the people that you are having a hard time understanding.

 

Just about everybody where I live DON'T HAVE A MOTHER FUCKING CLUE on how to speak English anymore. I swear, the education system should be more strict about English classes. I pretty much just tell everybody to call me now, snce i cnt rd lke ths. (That was no exaggeration of what they do).

 

I ignore people who don't have proper grammar or spelling in posts or text messages. I can see how it could be appropriate for texting because sometimes there is a character limit to texts (like mine), but via computer, there is no excuse.

 

Ugh! I know what you mean! Bad spelling and grammar is my number one pet peev!

 

I can't deal with bad spelling and grammar. It's so annoying, I just have to point it out.

Also people who have perfect grammar and a large vocabulary are HOT.

 

While my grammar and spelling are not great, I am usually understandable , what i do ask people is to understand that sometimes there is a reason that is not obvious. For me I am terribly dyslexic, which ended up with me spending time in those "special classes" in grade and middle school. Those classes are great for your self esteem. Eventually they gave me an IQ test and I scored a 123. At work I can conceptualize very complex algorithms, but still read simple words backwards. in writing this quick post spell-check saved me at least 5 times ;-) Just want the EC gang to think about how some people view and judge us on one aspect of our life, without ever looking at the bigger picture of who we are as a complete person.

 

I agree, though your first "sentence" was a run on disaster.

As I have said before, it's almost impossible to be an error free writer.
