You Do Know Santa Clause Doesn't Exist...Don't You?

So its Christmas time again. Which is all fine and whatever but I'm definitely not a fan. Not of the religious side of it.

If you aren't a theist and live in a family with other Christians, you'll see that holidays can sometimes become quite frustrating when people push their beliefs in your face.

I was sitting in the lounge when someone put on one of those evangelical crazy networks. I usually stand up and leave, but I heard a few things that made me laugh, and that made me realise that the reasoning people use is sometimes very hypocritical. Especially when its in favour of their beliefs.

It was some sort of special Christmas sermon that was on. I gathered this when I saw everyone dressed as red clowns, well, not really lol - there were just a lot of people wearing red. The pastor was going on about the origins of Christmas and its pagan roots (*yawn*) and how it REALLY was originally all about Christ. Then he went on to say "You do know that Santa Clause doesn't exist", which caused the congregation to burst out in laughter. The type you hear when someone says something ridiculous or stupid ("Oh of course we know he doesn't exist hahaha"). Then he continued to say somthing along the lines of " ...well, I made my calculations and I found he would have needed 200 000 reindeer, with a sled as big as this mega church and not to mention he would have to travel faster that the speed of light-"), that's when I stood up and left, also laughing now. What a hypocrite! Talking animals? 7 days to make the universe? People turning into salt? Ridiculous hybrid beasts? The list goes on and on...

    Anyways, happy holidays everyone! =)

    Oh you. ^-^

Though, back to the topic. I dont really understand what you mean by this. The Physics/ Scientific explanation for the creation of the earth and universe really isnt much less far-fetched as the Christian explanation. Many modern christians dont believe in 'talking animals', however the bible like much of older literature uses metaphors/fiction to relay a message. So even if you considered hypocritical of them to believe as they do, it is likewise hypocritical to consider them hypocritical. (As all explanations are far-fetched and humans as a whole essentially know nothing.)

I'm not trying to shame you or anything, your thoughts are understandable. Its just that with that we have to remember we are basically equally as guilty under those circumstances.

I totally get what you're saying. The idea of flying reindeer is apparently ridiculous and unrealistic to them, but creationism/God is somehow not. I'd have to agree with you there...
