I"m not vegetarian, but I'm curious as to why you would choose to be so. Is it beliefs, religious views, just don't like the idea of killing and eating animals, etc...? Not here to bash or "conform" anyone, just curious.

I was vegetarian for about 2 years, but had to give it up due to financial reasons.

Come September next year when I'm at uni, I'll try it again.

Well, I'm a vegetarian, and I chose to be so for countless reasons. It's my opinion that farming animals for their flesh is one of the cruelest things we have done to them. Even if an animal is raised in a nice, free range situation, it still leads a relatively unhappy life. Take for instance meat chickens. They are hatched in brooders with hundreds of others, shoved into crates so crowded that they can scarcely turn around, then shipped on a long, terrifying journey to their farm. If they're lucky enough to be raised in a free range establishment, they still suffer because of the way they've been bred. They are so fat they can hardly move, their legs hurt constantly from their weight, and all they can do is eat all day. Some can't even walk from the pain in their legs, and they develop all sorts of medical problems. Does anyone care? No, because they're going to be slaughtered anyway. Quality of life doesn't matter. It's basically the same for all of the other animals raised for meat. They have been bred so extensively that it has entirely ruined their bodies and their health. They get a few months of a terrible life, and then they're killed. I personally can't stand how we humans have exploited animals in this way. That's one reason why I'm vegetarian. Does that answer your question?

Sorry for the rant. I realize that I rambled a bit, but the topic is one that I could go on and on about - believe me, I had to heavily restrict myself on this one.

Vegan! I didn't know that there were this many vegans and vegetarians here. Im vegan for ethical reasons, and I hate it when people call it a personal choice. A choice can only truly be personal if it mostly affects you, and meat eating has a negative impact on billions of innocent lives, and also harms the enviroment.

Thanks. I chose it because I strongly identify as a veganarchist. Unfortunately, anarchists and vegans are both quite rare, so being both happens very rarely. It doesn't help that I'm also a transhumanist.
