Okay, so I was watching Scott Pilgrim vs The World yesterday with my dad. (Awesome movie!) And anyway, he ended up leaving halfway through it because apparently it was too 'gay' for him!! He said it made him feel sick and he got up and left! I couldnt believe i! He does the same thing when Glee is on. He shuts all the doors and doesnt come into the loungeroom when its on because its 'too gay'!! My dad is so frickin homophobic!! Its disgusting!! I am so angry!! :***:

Chill, all old people are homophobic, unless they are LGBT themselves.

They were just born knowing that Men = Female, not Male = Male, or vice versa. We are luckily a smart generation, not thinking that way. We aren't as close minded as our older generations are.

My Dad and Brother used to act the same way whenever i was watching the music channel and Katy Perry's 'Firework' music video would come on. It simply features 2 guys slowly move toward eachother and touch lips for a second and thats it. But my Brother would over-react saying that they were "full on groping on eachother and making out" and that the video should be banned for having a gay porn scene. I was like.. seriously? >.>

The movies awesome! Its kind of like a weird action comedy! This guy has to defeat this girls 7 evil.exes.if he wants to be with her. Its totally random and funny! And Keiran Culkin plays his gay room mate. Worth watching. Michael Cera stars!

maybe your dad also has different tastes in music and movies?
playing devils advocate here: i did notice that more and more tv shows and movies are adding very flamboyant gay characters, not just gay but GAY!!! So it is in yo face, and that is too outrageous for conservatives. i don't know the movie, but if it was like that...prob why it made him feel ill. it kinda makes me queazy too...and ultra acting gay gays at school with purposefully squeaky voices and attitudes to match, it makes me have an urge to beat them up. It is irritating! So...maybe you can try a LESS GAAAAAYYYY!!! movie character in next one? And if not, just don't invite dad.

Are you in the closet to your dad? That's rough, at least my dad isn't as open about his homophobia. I didn't think scott pilgrim was that camp?? He may just be a little insecure about his own masculinity and feels that his testosterone levels are threatened by watching such programs. Most men are. Even i am to some extent, i feel a little odd if i start listening to 90's pop, listening to "hit me baby one more time" does make me cringe a little...

Lol, I did not really like the movie either, but hell if I told my girlfriend, she`d crusify me! The difference is you cannot dump your father, so he can allow himself to hate on it :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
No, seriously, I get that you got upset over the "...to gay" comment, but at the same time, think about it like he does not nescessarily hate gayness, he just has a low tolerance for it, like a slight allergy! One cannot really blame someone for allergies, at least he gave it a try. Try to forgive his short-comings

I know plenty of older people who aren't homophobic. Many of them are straight and cis. It varies too much from person to person so you really can't say they're all homophobic.

That's pretty terrible. Getting really mad at someone just for the way they talk and carry themselves is pointless. Wanting to beat them up for it is bullying.

As for your dad, Boi George, I'm not sure if you're out to him or not, but whether you are or he just suspects you are, this might be him trying to come to terms with your sexuality and gender. But some people really are just adamant homophobes and it's really unfortunate.

But either way, he's missing out because Scott Pilgrim is an utterly fantastic movie. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

..just like you want people to understand who you are, it's only fair to understand where your dad is coming from. Gay is uncomfortable, especially when one is not gay. Scott Pilgram has that gay guy in it that kind of does make things uncomfortable. I could see why someone who isn't versed in gay culture would feel that way.

Never watched Glee, never had any interest..couldn't tell ya.

People are going to tolerate you and you're going to have to do the same for others. Also, if your dad isn't comfortable watching those things, respect his space. It's just like if you smoked. You don't do it inside the house. You go outside and do it.

Sounds like you guys aren't communicating anyway.

I agree that he went to far saying they are too gay but when my sister watches glee (as she is doing right now being on a glee marathon) I leave the room also. I don't like musicals at all. I love music but not that.

  16. Ummm :eusa_eh:...no, not really. I know a lot of tolerant old straight people.

That's weird; Scott Pilgrim isn't even a little gay. He's fighting so much to be with a girl for f***'s sake!

Glee is pretty gay though. The only part I saw was when the class sang that Hawaiian guy's version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and it made their teacher cry for some reason. It was like girly-girl kryptonite.

I only find the Vegan boyfriend to give the gay vibe to the film, and only cause of the tight fitting outfit, the perfectly done hair, and the flawless skin.

wait... this is the one about the dorkishly attractive and endearing kid who has to battle his girlfriend's super-powered ex's, right?

That bothers me too. But I find it far worse when other gays say that.... Like you are freaking joking, right?!
