well...the hospitals never turn away a patient in the US without any health insurance. something is odd in that cartoon cuz I'm not getting that the gf coulda saved her life with her health insurance card.
You're right, hospitals aren't allowed to turn people away. BUT...if someone, for example, had cancer....they wouldn't treat the cancer, they would just give comfort measures. So, sadly, the cartoon is on the money.
As was said, if it was a trauma, yes, US hospitals could not turn her away. If it was something like cancer and the treatment was in an experimental trial, it would not necessarily be covered by medicare/medicaid and the providers do not have the obligation to treat. As for the not being able to see her in the hospital, a durable power of attorney could have been filed. This is assuming that the cartoon was written in the USA.
this made me choke up, its kinda true because there is a possibility that it could happen, i hope it never does to anyone but there is a possibility that it could happen i shouldn't have looked at it before going to my volunteering placement :tears:
Aww, I'm so glad LGBT people at least have rights here, even if its not marriage rights. Oh, and the NHS.
Words can't express how sad that made me. And the saddest part is that it has happened, and probably continues to. :tears:
