This is so terrible! I mean what sort of lives are these women condemned to that they are treated as property and have a monetary value? I'm a real fan of the religion laws in the first anedment - everyone is granted the right to believe in what they want, so if that old man wants to believe that that is ok, thats his own concern. However, people are NOT granted the right to practice all parts of their religion/beliefs, only what is legal. This is not ok and never was.

Fucking hell. *shivers*. This is horrible. And if 'legal and correct' is equivalent to 'ethical and right' then I've seriously got to leave planet earth and set up a better society on a planet far, far away.

Who needs arguments against cultural relativism when you have stuff like this happening?

She could kill him and make it seem like he died of old age but she'd have to be sneaky.... or wait it out but that would take longer...

It goes without saying that deeply religiously conservative and tribal tradition-bound Saudi Arabia is not exactly a country that's held up as a paragon of women's rights, especially when it comes to poor women and girls. Sadly, many of the women actually think that the restrictions on their freedoms are good for them because they "protect" them. It's a country that will only give up its ass-backwards traditions and customs after having been dragged kicking and screaming for a good while.

As an example, my mom and I had the unpleasant experiences in Saudi Arabia of being harassed by men while my dad was away and being caught by the religious police for not wearing the black robes (abayas) while out in town.

At first i was guessing which Asian countries this is...

then I read" Saudi Arabia" and didn't bother reading the whole thing...

Isn't Saudi Arabia, currently at time of posting, one of the few countries who don't like "western ways"?

And these are the reasons I give when people get mad at me for not supporting our troops saying they are fighting for our freedoms, and it's like ok that's nice but we have have our freedoms we are not forced into anything like this or treated like slaves , if they really want to help fight for our freedoms why don't they stay here and help with the fight for marriage equality and adoption rights and discrimination laws so we can't be fired or not hired for being gay, how bout that?!? But no I'm just told I'm a selfish bitch who should be ashamed of herself for not supporting the troops.
