It was my first opportunity to get in touch with a larger LGBT community and in particular could 'see,' so to speak, first hand that not all gay men's feelings and experiences were the same.

I feel like I belong, it's not something I've ever really experienced.

People here are largely kind and empathetic toward one another.

I can freely be myself without fear.

It provides a simple way to educate yourself about LGBT issues and communicate with other LGBT people, which a lot of people need.

That's about it, in my opinion.

Could I make a "Things You Dislike About EC" thread?

You don't have to deal with a lot of the BS that keeps me off of other parts of the internet, especially the culture of trolling. People here are way more genuine than they are in other places.

    Agreed.

I also like that I can be open and be myself without being judged. And I never would have thought that going through this difficult time in my life that I'd be able to help others (both older and younger than myself) who are going through similar things.

Though I think we do see a *little* trolling on here, it's nowhere near as bad as some of the other sites. I belong to another forum (not LGBT related at all) and oh my goodness..... (which explains why I have 181 posts in about a month of membership here, and a much smaller number in over 2 years at this other place...)

I don't have to play the part. I can be completely open because I can count that people will try to understand me, not take my words out of context. I can be genuinely honest.
People help. Actually, more than just that, people see it as the point of their involvement to help, no matter what the problem. Everyone's equal too, so I get to help others as well, which in turn again helps me. And so, round and round, the whole community grows stronger while keeping everyone kind and friendly and helper as well as a helpee.
Nobody's rejected, nobody pushed aside. Topics don't sink into oblivion unanswered.

It's a place where you can feel relaxed and good about yourself.

Well this is the first LGBT forum which didn't make me hit the back button. I can't go into much detail as this is my first post and I haven't got to know the forum/community yet, but something about you is appealing. Whatever it is, I like it.

    P.S. Hi.

^This. I actually viewed 2 other LGBT forums before this one and they seemed so eccentric and weird. People weren't as calm and collected as they are here.

Oh, and hi! Welcome to EC! :smilewave

I can get help from people living the same thing as me. I can help others too. I can be myself without getting judged. I can pass time when I'm bored or feeling down.

I love this website so much. ^_^

Pretty much this. EC is like an island in an ocean of insanity.

Exactly! People here genuinely care. And, I have to add - thanks to all the staff that keeps EC the way it is! EC is truly amazing.

Incredibly true, it is rare to find a place with people this caring on the internet.

My personal favorite aspect is that it's the only outlet I have
