I was really good at languages at school. I did French and Italian at school and Spanish at college. I'm no longer at college so I haven't properly learned a language in a couple of years.

I get these moments where I want to start again but I can't find a class to do and self learning seems so hard and I'm far too inconsistent-I go from wanting to continue to learn Spanish to French to Italian to completely start over with Portuguese. I wish if I just stuck with one language I'd be further ahead.

However I dont have like a super need to learn a language. I don't want to move abroad and I DONT plan (atm) pursuing a career that relates to languages). It's just it is something I know I'm good at and It would be a major bonus to speak a foreign language

Anyway enough about me what about you?

My native language is Dutch but I obviously speak English too. Besides that I can make myself understood in German and Spanish and have a basic knowledge of French.

I'm a native speaker of Croatian, I get by pretty well in English and I would be far from lost in German or Italian.

    In order of 'fluency':
    English
    French
    Japanese
    German

Can also understand the basic gist of most latin languages like Italian and Spanish.

I can speak passable French. Put it this way, drop me in Paris, and I can get my way around. I'm currently taking French, so my competency in it will only improve.

I also can speak a touch of Russian and Spanish.

I've taken Spanish in school and I'm currently taking Japanese, so I know a bit of those. I'm not fluent in either, but I love listening to other languages, especially their music. I don't know if I'll ever be fluent in one unless I travel abroad.

I'm can speak passable Spanish, but I'm not exactly as comfortable as I should be considering much of my family is fluent. I can read the Hangul, Greek, and Cyrillic alphabets, but I don't understand what I'm sounding out.

I speak both English and Dutch fluently, Dutch being my native language.
Other than that, I speak German quite well. That's it. I took French classes for four years, and my knowledge still doesn't go deeper than oui and non.

I took 3 years of Spanish in High School and am thinking about relearning it after I learn ASL (American Sign Language) fluently. I know I should know Spanish because of where I live, but I know enough to help at work. Oddly, ASL is more of a priority to me. I want to see more of Deaf culture and know enough ASL so that it isn't just polite conversation when I sign.

I took two years of Spanish and two years of Chinese in high school. I've got programs on my computer that are teaching me Japanese, Korean, German, Romanian, and Russian. Mostly focusing on Romanian and Russian. I know a bit of Esperanto. I also took a year of French in college, but I'm not good at French.

    J'etude francais pour quatre ans.

Or, I studied French for four years. I had it for two years in high school and another two in college, because my program required 12 hours of a foreign language. I used to be QUITE good with it, but since graduating I haven't used it much and have forgotten a lot. During my last year in college we had a collection of short stories that were completely in French and I was so proud of myself for being able to read it. Now? Good luck with that.

I worked with several international students in college, too, and I picked up some handy phrases in Romanian, Nepali, Russian, and Finnish, by just asking my friends to teach me.

    l wish.

l was also into it in HS. Spanish teacher actually used the word "genius" in describing my ability to learn foreign language. Don't worry, l was simultaneously failing to grasp simple geometry, lol.

But yeah:frowning2: did nothing with it afterward. Am now an IT student. l'd love to learn a language as a hobby but the issue of not using it in real life is very real.
