I just watched a tv episode of the 1991-94 sitcom 'Dinosaurs'. it was an episode where Robbie, the teen dinosuar in the family, dabbles with eating veggitables, even though he is a carnivore. his parents reaction to finding out that he has been eating like a herbivore was classic reaction to finding out a child is gay if the parents are closed minded. they even talk about an uncle that no one talks about because of his 'unnatural lifestyle'.

later in the episode, when they discover him at a salad bar, the father, Earl, tries to drag him out, and gets called a 'herbiphobe'.

in the end, his father accepts that his son eats vegetables from time to time, and the family accepts that there is nothing wrong with it.

anyone else seen shows find interesting ways to explore such themes through ananlogies and language reminiscent of homophobia?

"Not that there's anything wrong with that".

Not really analogizing, but I couldn't resist. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

There's a british show called Merlin (about the wizard, only he's young) where people who practice magic are executed in Camelot. Merlin uses his magic in secret to help Prince Arthur, despite everything the King is doing. This show is theorised by many to symbolise how LGBT people are forced to hide important parts of who they are because of society.

So often this is true in real life, especially in Hollywood, had men realized (during their heyday time) many actors were same sex oriented, they may not have achieved fame or status with in the industry had the public known.

Only thing that comes to mind is Queer as Folk (US), when Michael and Ben adopt Hunter, thinking he is gay because in his past he had sex with men for money, and everyone just kind of assumes he is gay. And then he "comes out" to them as straight. It's hilarious. They're both so shocked.

Took me ages to find it:
