I'm sitting down and the film Sky High is on in the background and I couldn't help but notice how when Will tells his farther he's a sidekick he reacted in much the same way my farther did when he told him I was gay. Do you think that somehow that sidekicks could be refering to the gay community trying to be accepted by the heroes or straight people?
I suppose it's possible, but I'd say not. There's probably parrellels (I'm not sure; only seen bits of that movie) but it's a lot like the X-Men parrallels. Definitely there, but not really intentional. Still, you never know, I guess.
Sounds like the ripped off the exact same scene from Buffy the Vampire Slayer... There's a scene where Buffy tells her mom she's a slayer and it's supposed to parralell what it's like to come out.
It's possible, but hardly a point of celebration. It'd be lovely if cis-hets stopped making media with analogies to queerness (by removing queer people, how revolutionary :dry and actually started to represent us properly.
