Default Does anyone see the irony in this?

Americans today are screaming bloody murder about illegal immigration...

However, in the 1820s-30s WE were illegally immigrating into Mexico!

White Americans were moving into Mexican owned Texas without becoming citizens, becoming Roman Catholic, or respecting the Mexican laws-all things required to legally move into the country!

By 1830, White Americans outnumbered Tejanos (Mexican Texans) 5 to 1!

Ironic, no?

It is true, but the major difference would have to be tax evasion. Assuming there even were taxes in Texas back then, I doubt we avoided them.

I know, but there were other problems with the settlers disregarding the law, and drinking recklessly-both against Mexican law.

Just found this hilarious when I read it in my History Textbook.

The British go back and forth throughout the whole book. I also found it funny how the US invaded Mexico when they refused to sell them half the country. :P

Well we had every right to invade! We're America! And if we can't peacefully "spread our freedom" to other countries, then we'll do it by opressing them!

Oh, gosh, Texas history.

I forgot it all.

Except that Texas was its own country 1835-1846 or something.

The city in which I live has a community called "First Colony", and Stephen F. Austin settled there/near there. I live a half mile away from the Brazos in the historical settlement area. My old high school was named Stephen F. Austin High School, too. lol

It is ironic.

I dont really know how much trouble we caused there but, in my city, a school teacher was killed by a drunk, illegal immigrant going the wrong way on a road of a highway. idk it kind of pisses me and everyone in my town off.

yeah, im MN a couple weeks back.
an illegal immigrant flew through a red light in a van.
and she got a little bit of air going over a hump before the intersection.
and she hit a bus, knocked it COMPLETELY over on its side.
killed 4 elementary school kids.
it was horrible.

she obviously had to be driving pretty recklessly to knock a school bus over by t-boning it.
