My objective is to make a quick generalization based upon poll results and behaviors in different locations.

Local area. What I mean by accepting/rejecting of homosexuality, I mean in respect to school/workplace/residential area position like for school, homosexuality is accepted if there are signs of attempts to make a positive environment for homosexuals.

Can someone edit the poll please? No, my area accepts homosexuality, but I experience more overt homophobia to No, my area rejects homosexuality, but I experience more overt homophobia. Basically, on the no set, replace accepts with rejects.

Even though I live in a Seattle a pretty liberal city, I live in a part of south Seattle full of my relatives and other religious families all of whom are against homosexuality especially my high school.

Is the against more overt or covert or about equal? If more overt, then it would be the 7th option. I could have added whether they allow the homophobic attitude or not, but then I'm going to have add 3^3 options which isn't enough for this poll and sample size is a problem.

Wait, can you edit the all ',but' to be replaced with 'and'? Just found another error.

    Thanks for changing the words.

Overall, Alabama mostly does not accept homosexuality. But there are a few people around me who do accept it, and a few who do not. So I chose the 8th answer.

Well, could have added one more option. But I presume that everyone in here will at least experience a form of homophobia or observe it which I count as experiencing it as well.

Judging from the poll result so far, we can assert that there is higher likelihood of covert homophobia exists in positive environment. Given that in a positive environment, overt homophobia will most likely be frowned upon or dealt with punishment, people who wants to bully homosexuals will resort to covert methodologies such as covert emotional manipulations, covert crowd behaviors, and so on. It appears that negative environment have a higher likelihood of overt homophobia. Base on the neutral environment, it appears that there is more overt homophobia.

Very accepting. The homophobes don't dare say anything negative in public.

Seem like most people here live in a neutral environment, but frankly I ain't surprised.

Hmm, have you asked a mod to change your vote? I can't change it.

I don't experience homophobia where I am, covert or overt.

For some reason, Austin almost seems to have a reputation for San Francisco- or Portland-esque liberalness, but it's actually just very libertarian. Tattooed and pierced metalheads, granola bohemians, trendy hipsters, yuppies, soccer moms and gun toting rednecks all rub shoulders here, so being LGBT doesn't make anyone bat an eye. I could see a rare insult being thrown around by a drunk person downtown or some very covert homophobia, but nothing really of note.

I've said that the student population might be a little more conservative given they're largely from suburbs, but the more open I am about my orientation, the more I realize that's wrong.

Hmm, what's interesting in this poll is that it seems to suggest places with higher degree of acceptance toward homosexuality have higher amount of homophobic behaviors. It's scoring high on the covert homophobic behaviors. How can one explain the results?

    ---------- Post added 9th Feb 2013 at 08:20 PM ----------

Actual result when there was 25 votes.

It is modified due to a person mistake and under the assertion from the post that they would pick a extra option called 'other' from those who have not experienced homophobia.

This is the fixed results. I used excel to fix it.

    Accepted homosexuality ; More overt homophobia- 1 - 3.70%
Accepted homosexuality ; Equal amount of overt and covert homophobia - 3 - 11.11%
    Accepted homosexuality ; More covert homophobia - 6 - 22.22%
    Neutral homosexuality ; More overt homophobia - 1 - 3.70%
Neutral homosexuality ; Equal amount of overt and covert homophobia - 7 - 25.93%
    Neutral homosexuality ; More covert homophobia - 0 - 0.00%
    Rejected homosexuality ; More overt homophobia - 3 - 11.11%
Rejected homosexuality ; Equal amount of overt and covert homophobia - 4 - 14.81%
    Rejected homosexuality ; More covert homophobia - 0 - 0.00%
    Other - 2 - 7.41%

    # Participants votes and a "counted votes on imaginary missing option called other"- 27

    ---------- Post added 9th Feb 2013 at 08:26 PM ----------

The average census experience seems to be between option #4 and #5

    ---------- Post added 9th Feb 2013 at 08:28 PM ----------

Disregard average census experience, it's questionable.

Never mind, I think this is flawed. Man, 20 options limit ain't enough for this. There needs to be multiple questions and choices. There should also be the degree of severity factor and the attitude toward how homophobes are punished. That makes up (3^3)*5 options which is 27*5=135 options to consider.
