I'm dyslexic  Not that badly, I can function, but I learnt to read when I was around nine (I'm fine now) and I still struggle to write :s

Actually, I feel like I'm speaking out of turn here, but I am not diagnosed, but I have noticed that I have had some trouble reading/writing over the last little while. When I write I always tend to mess up the word order. Funny thing is I am a big stickler for proper grammar.

I was diagnosed as dyslexic when I was nine and knew I was attracted to boys at age 6. I had the displeasure of special Ed classes when I was in grade school. I now do computer programming and because I double check everything due to being dyslexic I make very few errors. What really pisses me off is on places like EC people pick on you when you spell something or miss place a word due to being dyslexic. The message is more important than the spelling.

Oregon....sorry for people like me who do correct you. It's not that we are trying to be mean, (I just spelt mean as mena...) but yes you are right...the message is more important than the spelling. But, i know it will seem weird, that as you have dyslexia, we have the compulsive need to also correct spelling/grammar mistakes. Including our own. So.... as one who is semi-dyslexic and yet also (spelt it as alos by accident) a corrector, please forgive us.... nad at the same time... I recognize how easy it is to be dyslexic.

No your not speaking out of turn, there are many thousands of Dyslexics out there who have slipped through the net & have gone undiagnosed, you should take one of these tests on the internet :icon_bigg

Same here Oregontinker, I work with computers & I have to proof read & I make very few errors, none of my work comes back to me  the message is very much more important than the spelling

Haven`t seen it much here, but I see it a lot other places. Like if you ability to spell English somehow defines your entire intelligence and (in)validate your opinions. It`s pretty irritating. I usually don`t get it thrown after me, but it happens, and it annoys me greatly when I see someone who`s written a logical and thoughtful post, stating an intelligent opinion about something, but then just gets disregarded and thrown crap at because the spelling may have sucked a little. It`s ridiculous

I just did on 2 different websites and both said the same thing: you may have dyslexia or you are moderately dyslexic. Thanks Dublin

lol So why do you still feel the need to correct others?

l don't know how it is for you and now l have spellcheck in my browser but it's not necessarily the same as struggling to spell a word just because you don't know how it's spelled, which l also sometimes do.

l am actually better with words that should be harder to spel.

there are times when l can look at word and NOT see that it looks different. Example, say l write the word "dosen't", it's such a simple error l wouldn't even make but without warning it can look like "doesn't" to me even after l stare it at for a few minutes.

lt's frustrating to be called out on stupid errors like this. And there are a number you can still make with spellcheck.

I have only recently discovered and accepted in my late 40s early 50s that I am gay, I am also dyslexic and think my muddling up words and my chaotic NLP chunking/lateral thinking has helped me in my creative endeavours.

Also a few years ago I had some sort of stroke, I say some sort because the stroke assessment team at the hospital said I had definitely had one only to be contradicted by a specialist later, anyway after the stroke-notstroke I found my creative juices really kicked into overdrive.

I think being dyslexic has helped me in my work as a creative person, and did you know something like 1 in 3 self-made millionaires are dyslexic!

    Sale Gay Guy

P.S. My dyslexia did not stop me becoming a director of an International $750m company .. I think it helped me!

hehe l saw you post this somewhere else and talk about programming.

lots of dyslexic programmers  l do some programming myself and was nervous before getting into it just based on everything l read online which is like NO, NO DO NOT.

But l do ok and check my own work obsessively, seems like it's actually something a lot of dyslexics get into though wich l noticed years ago.

Why do I feel the need? I don't know, its just something that drives me crazy... I can't help it. I just do. It's not me trying to be annoying (though i realize now it is) it's more so I just appreciate well written things.

I was just thinking if you'd had the experience of being corrected and knowing the errors weren't due to anything you could have prevented at the time you might feel otherwise but ok lol.

I usually assume people correct because they think the issue is just laziness or lack of attention to detail.
