Evidently Thomas Beatie is from my area. He looks very famliar but I don't know him. The media frenzy is going to go crazy with this and I'm wondering how PFLAG can offer our support of his and Nancy's unique situation. People magazine is doing a story and he's scheduled to be on Oprah the first of April.

That's something to be proud of. He is going through a lot and he remains strong even though he doesn't have the support of the society, friends and even the family!
    Wow.

That's great! He's having to deal with the pregnancy as a man. That must be so hard, today's society will probably be against them and I can't imagine what it must feel like. I honestly didn't even know it was possible, strangely I've imagined about this for a while. so cool

Wow! He is being so brave. I hope he doesn't let the nay-sayers get to him. Maybe your PFLAG chapter could write him a letter a of support or something, just to show them they're not alone?

Wait I'm confused.. Is it a transexual giving birth? Like a MTF transexual who decided not to get breasts? Or a FTM?

It's a breakthrough nonetheless and I feel happy for the guy. It's a shame people are bashing him. "Smash that which you don't understand" is such a primitive mentality and we as humans need to learn to rise above it.

It's an FTM transexual who never had a hystorectomy, so he still has a womb.

Well the ball is rolling.........I've corresponded with other organizations about providing support for this family. One person that knows them is going to contact them and see what they need. Somebody also suggested a big community baby shower which I think is a great idea! I'm guessing this is going to be on CNN in like two days.

Well, congrats to them for going through all of this! I can't even imagine what kinds of things they're going through...

I have to say, I just went and mentioned this to my dad (i'm out to my entire immediate family). He seemed a bit surprised about it, and he mentioned how my great aunt, who used to be a nurse, had said that occasionally there were babies born with both male and female parts. A decision was usually made about whether the kid should be male or female.

I'm not exactly sure what he thought about this. He kind of went back to his paperwork after thinking about it for a short bit.

That's great for them. I mean so what if they're pushing the boundaries of some people idea of a family, but nothing in this life worth having comes easy and they are definately proof of this
