Well, as some people may know, this Thursday is Pi Day ( 3.14 > 3/14). And of course, this gives my teachers at school an excuse to give me a project on pi. I have an idea of what I should do but I don't know if I should do it. Here it is:

I was thinking of baking a huge three-layer cake. I will stack the first two layers uncut on top of each other and take the third layer and cut the Pi symbol out and place it on top of the cake. I would also cover it in different colors of fondant and maybe put a design on it later.

I have a lot of experience with making cakes because my grandfather owns a bakery and I like to help him sometimes. I also have all the supplies I would need. Should I attempt this or stay with something simple.

Yes. Teachers like it when you go to extreme lengths for stupid projects like this. Besides you like baking, right? Just be sure to include any information about Pi that you're required to, if you are in fact required to. You could also adorn it with the first 20 or so digits of Pi.

I'm making mini 6 inch pies for the math teachers at school. They are going to have the pie symbol cut out on the top.

I actually know quite a few people in my area that don't like cake....

Why not? I'm celebrating Pi Day with my Pi tie (a black tie with digits of Pi printed on it).

I'm probably going to be finished around 10 or 11. I will post some pics when I finish it.

You could also mark the diameter and radius, and mark the points on the edge showing 3.14 diameters fit into the circumference. Pi don't mean nothin' unless you show what it's used for!

Are you implying that there are people where you live who don't like pie?!? I shudder to think of it!

Bring it in on a circular platter, then you're cool. If you want to be really obstinate you can bring it on an ovular platter and explain how ovals are homeomorphic to circles.

That's a really good idea ;D It's relatively simple as well.
Suggestion for when you're cutting the top layer for the pi symbol: trace it out in icing first! I've found that saves a whole lot of time in the long run.
Last year for pi day I made a few dozen cupcakes designed as pies. This is the same picture from the cookbook I used (and they came out pretty dang similar if I do say so myself xD):

Do it. I am learning the numbers in pi for Pi day when my math teacher asks us how many numbers can we name.
