Should I change the nickname I use in a particular game.

    BEATA_POOF

As you see it can mean beat-a-poof as well as just the silly nickname Beata Poof

Im from Sweden and therefor I didnt completely understood the meaning of the word "poof" when I picked my name. I thought it was an old funny word for somebody whos is a little silly and clumsy :rolle:

I hate prejudices and violence (if its not in some humoristic context) so I dont want to truly offend anyone or give the wrong impression of myself.

Its a mess to change nick but if I hurt people I'll do it.

    Please someone

I posted this topic earlier but got no replies. Hope someone can give me a hint.

Thousand thanks in advance / Abe :help:

It can go either way. There will be some people who will be offended by it and some who won't. Generally, I don't think "poof" is super offensive anymore though.

If you think it's a big concern then go ahead and change it. I don't think it's a big deal though.

P.S. If you haven't gotten a reply on your thread, give it a bit of time, or post in it again to bring it back to the front page. Making multiple threads clutters the forums.

    Thanks a lot.

That was what I needed. I forgot to mention I meant it as a sort of invitation to beat me(in the game that is  ), which makes me the poof.

Now I think I have got the "weight impact " of the word and I've decided to keep it.

I am very greatful you took your time for this. :thewave:

    ..and I sorry for spamming.

Main reason for repost was rewriting it and change topic so it would better describe my problem.

The origin topic was too general.

Brit/Aussie slang for a male homosexual, based on the permanant stretching of the anus that results from repeated anal sex, which causes farts to be emitted with a "pooft" sound rather than the usual, stacatto "bra-a-a-p".

    Hi Dubliner

Thanks for your efforts getting involved in this issue.

This is just a last quick double check.

Would you think the rest of the population of the British Isles generally considered the word poof as offensive/negative or "gay-cute-funny"?

Also I wonder If i was totally wrong when used the word as "silly-clumsy",
since Renge thought it was cute (until you stained it  ) and Niko from US seemed ok with the word.

    Thanks again everyone

I think it is considered offensive in Ireland & the British Isles, on the same level as the word Queer, mainly as I think a Homophobic person says it in a derogatory way with the intent of it being Offensive to the gay person!
