Being the Theatre Geek that I am, I have to give a Holla to my fellow Theatre-Lovers and ask WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MUSICAL??

My single favorite musical would have to be Les Miserables, but my all-time favorite composer is Stephen Sondheim. As a whole, his works are my combined favorites - especially Sunday in the Park with George and Follies

    What about you?

Definitely Sweeny. I took an American Musical Theatre History course last year and it really exposed me to a lot of amazing musicals over the many years of development of the genre/form. Sweeny was my favorite but I also really like Book of Mormon! Too hilarious!! I also got to see American Idiot in person, and it was amazing! And I am a huge fan of Wicked as well!

I have a soft spot for Annie since it was the first musical I ever saw.

You guys mentioned some good ones already, Singin' in the Rain & The Wizard of Oz. Gene Kelly's dancing scene is an all time classic. I also like Oklahoma, South Pacific and Sound of Music by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Anything with Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth or Ginger Rogers. Yankee Doodle Dandy with James Cagney is also an American classic. More modern stuff, Evita was pretty good.

There are so many that I absolutely love! Musicals are probably my favourite type of work, and we've stacks of ones from the 50s that are fun even if hard to distinguish from each other. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has wonderful dancing, Les Misérables is an excellent story, Annie Get Your Gun and Calamity Jane are a lot of fun, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and such are childhood classics... Man, I could go on naming these for ages.

The best one, however, just has to be The Phantom of the Opera, with this amateur recording of the title song taking top spot among the many renditions. That music, that drama, that romance, that music, those costumes, that music, that music of the night...

Unfortunately I have not seen a terribly large amount of musicals, but my favorite thus far was seeing Wicked in London. Brilliantly done!

Goth opera!! Woot! The Graverobber is so frickin' hot.

Either Ragtime or The Producers, although I haven't seen many more than that in person.

My partner has an MFA in Tech Theater (he does sets, lights, sound, etc.) and has over 20yrs experience in the field, both teaching and doing. So I've got to see a *lot* of theater productions in our time together. Sometimes we get comp or discounted tickets to productions when they need to fill seats or he calls in a favor from a friend in the local theater scene.

We got to do a backstage tour of the Producers traveling show when it came to Norfolk some years back as a result of him knowing the facility manager or something. It pays to have connections:grin:

I loved Grease! Phantom of the Opera was great too. I would love to see Les Miserables, Rent, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Cabaret is my favorite musical, and in general, I like Cole Porter's songs, but ive never actually seen one of his shows. Just have an album of Ella Fitzgerald singing his songbook.

I go through different moods, but Ragtime is always up near the top if not at the top of my list. So many great songs! Some people think it is too anthem heavy, but I love me some anthems! I was just blasting the cast album earlier today. "Til We Reach That Day gives me chills every time!

I was lucky to be able to be a sort of "unofficial intern" for a musical that made it to Broadway a few years back. Unfortunately it flopped pretty quickly. :frowning2: Still I'm grateful to have had that experience however brief.
