My question - how do these things get started? Was somebody joking around, and said "Oh, I'll never get HIV - I sip bleach", and it grew from there? Did one girl decide the real reason she didn't get pregnant last month was the Mountain Dew she drank? Not the Twizzlers she ate, not the reality TV she watched, but the Mountain Dew?

I had started assuming that "kids these days" were smarter than that. I can't say I'm happy to find out I was wrong.

I watched a program once that said that some teens think gin and tonic prevents pregnancy, that you can't get pregnant if you have sex standing up/on your first time and you can't get pregnant if you're having sex on a boat. People need to learn about sex, so badly.

All I can say is, "Oh dear". Just when I thought the message was getting through. No offence to EC teens though. I'm sure you've all got more sense.....generally...I don't mean about getting pregnant because that isn't likely to happen to the vast majority here!!

Whoa, abstinence only sex-education actually exists!? I always thought that was either something out of the 50s or something that the insane fundies were pushing for/home-schooling. I find it so shocking that, in our modern society, abstinence-only sex ed is anything more than a fringe idea.

Abstinence is definetly not the option and this is a monument to that.

Well, I had proper sex-ed and still a classmate seriously believed that if she swallowed after oral she would get pregnant so... It's not a definite case, thinking that proper sex-ed will change that.

Umm I never had a sex ed class in my life but I'm smart enough to know how things work and that something like bleach or mountain dew won't prevent anything.
