It's not a pretty sight, lol.

I've never made a cake before, and I did this for my brothers birthday - he likes motorbikes!
It has six layers of sponge, but the food colouring wasn't very colourful.
On the bright side, it did taste awesome!!

It looks nice. Been quite a while since I've last eaten cake now that I think about it.

It's a rarity for me to be honest, as I'm trying to keep nice a trim these days.

Looks tasty, my kind of cake!

What colouring did you use? I've heard only gels will work with rainbow cake, those little bottles of liquid are apparently useless!

I learnt the hard way after baking red velvet cupcakes which turned out not very red but very brown.

It's the thought that counts & the love for your brother that went into making the cake, on the plus side it was really tasty

Yes, I did use those stupid bottles of colouring - and still have lots left :frowning2: Will probably give them to my Mum.

That was your first-ever cake? I think you did an incredible job in any case, but for a first time, it's particularly epic. Way, way better than my first cake

Hope you and your brother enjoyed it, and that he had an awesome birthday!

I'm not a huge fan of cake, and the colours put me off a little, but the design looks awesome, and I bet it's tasty!

You must have used the egg yokes, or a mix since the colors did not make. I made a red velvet cake last night for my lunch with Mike and the red came out fine. You can make a rainbow cake with thoes food colors, but you must only make a white cake as the base if you want to have the colors make at all with that type of dye. I have a wonderfull recipe for white cake which when using that type coloring you need to use a lot and only cake flour which I use Swans with good results. I know my recipe for sponge cake and pre mixes make a yellow color cake which does not dye well but might work if you omit the yokes and add whites. Just a suggestion, I bake a lot when I have a man. I feel you did a great job on it! June

    Thanks all!
The cake was a little too big in the end, but my brother has three children, so I'm guessing they scoffed it all down lol.
He also said it was very impressive.

June, yes I watched lots of videos on YouTube to get the recipe, and it included 4 eggs, which I had to do twice, so 8 eggs
