Would you consider yourself more of a realist (grounded and seeing what is), idealist (head in the clouds thinking of what could be), or somewhere in between?

I would love to see responses!

  2. I'm a realist who has big dreams and plans to accomplish them. I'm fairly happy with that  What about you, myheartincheck?

Usually I'm a stone cold realist. I do idealize sometimes, but my realist aspect kicks in immediately afterwards. I only believe in what I see with my eyes and have a tendency to (over)analyze everything.

As much as I love to see possibilities, I do have to remember that as boundless as my mind is, there are physical challenges that I still have to overcome, which can be resolved by "democratic" means and others I have to conquer, which are the ones I have to completely obliterate.

So I chose somewhere in-between.

I'm quite realistic. I wish I were more of an idealist at times though.

Are you familiar with the expression: "I wouldn't have seen it if I didn't believe it!"?

Powerful stuff, sort of like realizing that I am gay, what would have been obvious to others was impossible to me...so I didn't see it...

I'm not familiar with it. I just sit down and analyze everything I experience and categorize it based on my knowledge or information I find searching through research or studies. Sexuality was one of the subject I had very limited knowledge of (nor had any interest in), so it took me some years to figure things out amidst the confusion of being strongly in love with a girl, and having sexual thoughts of men which I rationalized as "Whatever works to do the work." rather than consider the possibility of being gay which had previously never crossed my mind as if homosexuality simply did not exist (I was young and innocent back then :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:) without a single feeling of guilt...until I learned about homosexuality that is.

I'm somewhere in between. I like to be an idealist because then everything is possible, but I also have to be a realist because then none of those dreams are possible.

Idealistic realist: I have idealistic idea boats which are weighed down by my rather large realistic anchors.

To me being an idealist means im a realist. The only limit to our potential is the limit we put on it ourselves. To dream is to lay the foundation needed for progress and invention. To believe in the good of humanity is to add to the good in humanity.

Think about how long humans have been on this planet in relation to how long the planet has been here. In such a relatively short time we have accomplished ridiculous amounts of things. In 1903 the Wright Brothers first learned how to fly. Barely more than half a century later we went to outerspace and landed on the moon. Over the course of my others life she has seen the invention of the internet and the personal computer. Over the course of mine I have seen the mass usage of smart phones - tiny little personal computers most of us carry with us which can instant connect us to our friends, as well as to people from all over the world, not to mention the internet, an amazing collection of human knowledge, feeling, thought, and experience. Who knows what we may see before we are dead ourselves? We do, because we will be the ones who will first dream them, and then create them. We are very powerful animals.

Some of the most productive and helpful inventions and most beautiful works of art have come during or after a period of the most pain and suffering, such as wars or the individual sufferings of individuals. It takes great idealism to make such things real and concrete.

    I'd say I'm both.

I know what I want the world to be like, therefore I'm an idealist.

I know what the world really is like, so I'm a realist.

And I'll do whatever I can to make the real world more like my ideal.

Somewhere in between, but I'm leaning towards realist. Most days, I see the world for what it is, but on occasion, I'll have my head in the clouds, and I will build kingdoms in the sky with no foundation. xD

I like to have my head in the clouds, but I will always think of the practical ways to achieve anything before I consider idealistic situations.

Definitely idealistic and a dreamer, very much so. One of my pet peeves is actually when someone tells me to "be realistic". Such a bummer. When I hear that, all I tend to hear is, "Stop dreaming." To which I say... "No." Silly me.

  17. Idealism but probably more of a optimist.
